Neighbour's log cabin obstructing our view

Our NDN has an L shaped guarding (like an upside down L) so part of their garden backs on to ours. They are having a massive log cabin constructed and the roof has just gone on. I'm really unhappy at how much it spoils the view from our garden as they have built it adjacent to the fence. Can I do anything about it now? Would you say/do anything? Can I make them change the roof to a flat roof instead of pitched? Bearing in mind we will likely have an extension in a few years and would need them to be on side. Picture below

Is the fence yours? If so I'd just get some nice evergreen climbers to grow along the top.
If the fence is theirs then a few evergreen bushes or some hedging will make a difference.
It'll be better when it's been there a while as you just won't notice it so much, its new at the minute so all you can focus on I'd imagine and being winter doesn't help!

I don't think it is too bad.

I reckon it is just the change is a shock.

Get some planting in and will look fine.

BubblesBuddy · 30/11/2017 13:10

Don’t get evergreen anything. They will darken your outlook and be thugs.

I don’t like my neighbours house much so we planted upright Cherry Trees which have fantastic spring blossom and autumn colour. They are beautiful. You could plant flowering shrubs in front of them so you look out on something pleasant.

I think with your climbing frame you do not have a view. Or a beautiful garden for that matter so you are complaining a bit too much. Get creative and make a better garden which will hide the roofline.

RunningOutOfCharge · 30/11/2017 13:12

Lol there's no 'view' to block!!

whiskyowl · 30/11/2017 16:47

Not every everygreen thing is a thug bubbles! There are plenty that are very well behaved and some have flowers and berries too! Just avoid laurel and leylandii, that's all.

Cherry trees are absolutely beautiful, though.

PrincessoftheSea · 30/11/2017 16:55

I think it looks fine. You only have a view to other peoples houses don't you? Its not as if its blocking your view to lovely fields/ sea

cathyclown · 30/11/2017 17:14

It is lower than I thought it would be from OP. Looks fine and cleanly built from the pics.

You will get used to it.

Say nothing and get on with your own plans.

Lilmisskittykat · 30/11/2017 17:46

Maybe they put it up to obscure the view of your climbing frame and trampoline Grin

Might just have to suck it up, be glad they didn't complain about your climbing frame - a different kind of neighbour would have done.

Growing something nice will help obscure the view

AlexaAmbidextra · 30/11/2017 19:59

I think their cabin looks a whole lot better than your climbing frame.

Escapepeas · 30/11/2017 20:01

Bamboo in pots in a row along the back?

Surpriseeggsforbreakfast · 01/12/2017 11:25

Alexa thanks for your contribution Hmm

My children enjoy the climbing frame and it's obviously not a thing of beauty but not likely to be there for as many years as the neighbour's cabin. FWIW they have an even bigger climbing frame at the bottom of their garden.

Even if the shed needed planning permission, loss of view isn't a valid ground for objection.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 01/12/2017 11:47

That climbing frame is just as much as an eyesore I'm afraid

MyKingdomForBrie · 01/12/2017 12:10

The climbing frame is not even vaguely comparable! It has a small ridge roof without sides which is end on to the neighbours view and therefore blocks nothing. It is also considered a temporary structure from a planning POV and therefore does not need a permission.

OP if that cabin is within 2m of their boundary and more than 2.5m tall it needs planning permission. I can see it’s intrusive to your view but I would let it go - you don’t want to piss off the neighbours especially in view of your upcoming extension. You’ll get used to it, it’s just a shock at first.
