Tiles - opinions

I'm usually okayish at putting things together but I'm going nuts over tiles & would greatly appreciate your opinions!

I'm in the process of decorating our bedroom & bathroom. Bedroom walls are neutral with latte/brown, golds/minks & cream accessories. Floor is darkish real wood. Bedroom leads straight into bathroom so I want the look to continue.

I'd love an aged antique mirror in there on one wall (such as photo) but what tiles would you use on the floor & also wall? The shower floor ideally needs to be mosaic sized tiles due to the base. I don't mind using different tiles. Im thinking neutrals beiges creams browns to flow from the bedroom?

I don't like ultra modern or large plain tiles. It's an old house & all of downstairs is very period.

Please help!!!

Absolutely loving these ideas ladies, thank the lord for MN! So for the floor I need to find either some marble hex mosaics or white penny tiles.

Then the walls - the same? Or marble tiles presume they are large format?

White marble with grey 'veins' should look good with white penny tiles with grey grout... However you'd need to make sure it didn't look too 'stark'.

Do you have to have wall tiles? Other than around our shower (where we have metro tiles) we have painted tongue and groove throughout all our bathrooms - a much warmer look and a more seamless look for an en-suite - you can match the skirting profile etc. Lots of examples on google...

Origami is that your bathroom? If so, wow!! Love it.

Yes just going to have tiles in the shower area only. It's a massive shower area 2.5m wide x 1.5m out! Used to have a bath in there which was never used as there is another bathroom, so decided to take it out & make a big luxury ensuite :-)

Where is your mirror from? Are your window mouldings original or did you add them?

Sorry ladies, what colour walls would you recommend with the marble & gold distressed mirror?

I've just seen some tear drop/arabesque mosaics - thoughts on those? Are they classic, modern, glam or tacky?

Sorry, only read as far as mosaic tiles. Just to flag that tilers will charge significantly more for mosaics since they are are a lot more difficult to lay properly. Don't know if cost is a factor for you but it's something to bear in mind if it is. It's also something to consider about your tiler if they there's no difference in the cost of laying them ( person who has heard too much about the pain of laying mosaics from OH!)

I think that’s quite a statement mirror you have in mind. I would put it in a beautiful frame (whatever you consider that to be, plenty of Victorian ones out there but I think Victorian houses stand up very well to the odd modern touch) on a white painted wall.

If it's such a luxurious en-suite, have you considered roping in a designer? They could put together different tiles and colours for you as it seems you have a lot of different ideas going.

Also, have you looked on Houzz? That's always a great source of different interiors.
