How many ovens do you have?

First world problem alert!

We're in the process of designing a kitchen in the forever home and I'm planning to have one full size oven in a tall unit, with a combination microwave oven and warming drawer in another tall unit (as per the picture).

I'm planning on doing a lot of hosting including Christmas dinners and possibly catering for up to 10-12 people at a time. With this in mind, would this configuration be enough or should I opt for two single ovens and one combination microwave/oven/warming drawer in 3 tall units. DH thinks I'm insane to want this many, which is fair enough.

Can I ask what oven configurations you have and if it's enough for you? Do you wish you had another oven or do you rarely use a second or third oven? We've ruled out a range cooker as I prefer the look of a built in oven (e.g a Neff)

We currently have one single oven plus an (allegedly but not really because it is rubbish) combination standalone microwave on the side. It is absolutely not enough. The number of times I need to cook things at the same time but at different temperatures, or grill and roast/bake at the same time, it ridiculous. I've had the same configuration for well over 10 years now and it still drives me mad. I end up compromising on temperature or frying rather than grilling and it is never as good as it should be.

We're getting our kitchen redone next summer, and then we'll get an eye level built in single oven, with a built in actually-works-properly-as-an-oven combi microwave above. I'm hoping to persuade DH that we can justify a ridiculously expensive all-in-one Neff thing that's an oven and also a microwave (as opposed to a microwave that is also an oven, if you see what I mean). And I cannot wait!

Feezles, would you be able to link to a product please? I'm not quite sure what you mean about the oven/microwave as opposed to microwave/oven.

This pic shows the new set up that I'm thinking of. The next decision will be whether to go with Neff (and the slide and hide) or Siemens. ...

We have a wood powered range with 2 ovens. No microwave.

The wood stove heats the hot water too

Allthebestnamesareused · 27/11/2017 16:07

I have 2 ovens a steam oven with a warming drawer beneath. See picture.

I had the same but set up as a 4 block (with a coffee machine) at my last house but have gone for just a standalone nespresso this time.

Love my steam oven. It does everything a microwave can!

Oooh what's a steam oven? We've got the same four square arrangement as buttwing but with an utterly annoying and unused coffee machine as the 4th. I'd like to put something useful in its space.

Crumbelina · 27/11/2017 17:42

We'll definitely opt for a Nespresso. The built in coffee machines are so expensive!

Allthebest, your kitchen is stunning! Can a steam oven reheat my cup of tea in 30 seconds? I have two DD (aged 2 and 10 weeks) so that's what I mainly use the microwave for at the moment. Smile

Crumbelina you need a boiling water tap - much quicker than a microwave. Tea topped up befor3 you’ve got the microwave door open!😂

Equimum · 27/11/2017 18:23

We have a full-sized oven in a tall unit, with a microwave-combo-oven-grill thingy above, and proving drawer beneath.

Crumbelina · 27/11/2017 18:25

Noooo Bouncy! Grin We've already had a long debate and the boiling tap is one of the budget sacrifices. It was either that or the underfloor heating had to go.

I’ve an oven and a steam oven and I went for the hot tap over the underfloor heating.

Given you have the choice I would definitely go for a double oven, or 2 separate ovens & the inbuilt microwave. We are hopefully moving house & the house only has a single oven & microwave as in your pic. There are only 4 of us but if its not silly money I definitely want it swapped for a double oven. It would be a PITA cooking with only one oven. How on earth do you cook Christmas dinner with only a single oven even?

OhIfIMust · 27/11/2017 22:15

I am only 5 foot 2 and have a double oven (one full-size and one smaller) and then a microwave stacked on top in our kitchen and I LOVE it! And can easily reach the microwave too. Would highly recommend having two ovens and have used all 3 at once (including the microwave) when cooking too...

Allthebestnamesareused · 29/11/2017 13:18

I've never tried reheating a cup of tea/coffee in the steam oven but will try it later today!

YorkshireTea86 · 29/11/2017 14:47

Family of 4. We have 2 full size ovens and a countertop microwave, one of the ovens is a Samsung dual cook one so we can use it at 2 different temperatures. I'm please we went for this configuration. When we have pizza night we have plenty of room for pizzas, garlic bread, chips and chicken nuggets for the one who won't eat pizza! Also able to have enough room this week for roast beef dinner, roast potatoes in one oven and apple crumble in the other.
