Daft question re underfloor heating

I could Google, but as the experts seem to reside here, this seemed like the obvious place to ask. We have rented an older property with underfloor heating. The floors downstairs are tommette (very old terrracotta tiling). Would putting a large rug on the floor affect the ability of the heating to do its job?

It won't affect the ability of it to work and with tiles it should be fine. We have wooden floors however (engineered oak) and can't put a rug down as it traps heat underneath and creates a hot spot which can then cause the wood to warp. I can't imagine it would be a problem with tiles but might be worth checking with your landlord just to be sure

It should be fine in terms of the system functioning, but it will add a layer of insulation. It's a bit like putting a blanket over a radiator - the radiator will still work, but you might not feel as much heat in the room.

Thanks for that. The house dates from about 1750, and is single glazed downstairs. I am getting thermal lined curtains (if I can find some with a 275 cm drop!), but just wanted to make it a tad less cold on the feet and look a bit cosier in the sitting room.
