Granite grooves round sink advice

buckeejit · 20/11/2017 09:29

We are having a single deep stainless steel sink with granite worktops

I had initially opted for grooves & semi circle sort of template around the drainer side of the sink only

At pil & they have granite without groove round & it seems to be wet everywhere. I’m wondering should we have the groove round left of the sink & right

They are coming at the end of the week to template for the worktops so any advice appreciated

We have it both sides although not exactly as we asked for (we wanted it bigger than they have done and we are due to talk to supplier for a resolution - all amicable though).

I wouldn’t have it one side, I would go for both.

This is a topic that seems to divide MN opinion. We have gone for none, but we do have a dual-bowl sink. When we had draining groves in a previous house, they were largely ineffective.

I’ve got an undermount sink and drainer grooves to one side. Given the choice I would also have had a groove all around the sink as the water does get everywhere and I usually have to put a teatowel down if I use the sink.

I'm baffled why people bother with these. Water only runs downhill. If the grooves or surface don't have a slope then the water will just sit there.

Surely to be functional it would need to be a sloping drainer as here?

But they are sloped? I am not sure why you think they are not?

Yes, I've also heard that the grooves are really just cosmetic.

Routed drainer grooves are mostly decorative. Although the bottom of the groove slopes down to the bowl, the surface of the granite usually doesnt. As most people use a dishwasher nowadays, its not normally an issue. Putting a teatowel down is quite a popular solution. The alternative is have a complete sink + drainer inset instead of an undermount bowl

Hmm - why don't I get this water problem? -not complaining, just puzzled-
