Being put off house simply because of the agents who market it

Just that really. We are ftb and have had our eye on a house that ticks all our boxes for the last couple of months. The thing is I work with the agents quite closely and I can't bear them. I know it sounds childish, but they are utterly vile. I know the ways they talk about their clients and seen several buyers of theirs in tears. I'm in contact with several Agents and have always managed to get on well (as far as possible) it's just this one I can't bloody stand . I am thinking if I could speak to the seller and ask that he withdraw his property and we will put an offer in privately. However I know that there'll be some kind of clause in their contract to deal with this eventuality. I keep thinking i should just suck it up and buy it, but argh. Has anyone ever asked their seller to go independent and has it worked. Thanks

I understand this completely. Our ex agents are so bad that now the buyers they introduced are unproceedable (because they lost their buyer) we refuse to work with them any longer, have given them notice & will be remarketing again with a new agent.

Depends on how much you like the house though. We can find a new buyer, but finding a dream house isn't quite so easy. We don't like the agents selling the house we want to buy either. They lie & have made the whole process so far difficult, however we do want the house, so if we manage to find a new buyer quickly we will be proceeding again but letting our new agent deal with them if necessary!

You’re not alone! A house cake on the market yesterday that looks interesting, but the agent really let us down over the summer and the thought of calling them to book a viewing makes me feel a little sick.

If it was just that then fine but you know you’re signing yourself up to months of having to deal with them!

We bought our 1st house off the worlds worst estate agents, he literally walked round the house we were viewing slagging it off! Complaining about the decor and their furniture Confused not sure he understood he was supposed to make people like the house in order to get paid Hmm unsurprisingly he isn’t an estate agent anymore. I’d suck it up if it’s the perfect house for you don’t let one silly person get in the way

is it all the staff in the EA or just 1 in particular? I was very nearly put off a 2nd viewing on the house I am in the process of buying because of the snotty sanctimonious manner of 1 of the female employees who showed me round it the 1st time.

The 2nd viewing was accompanied by a really lovely member of staff which redeemed the EA for me.

Thankfully, my purchase is being dealt with by someone normal.

So, I would probably ring and ask to speak to the manager and tell them what's putting you off.

You dont know that one of the vendors doesnt work at the EA, or her father doesnt own it etc etc. So asking them not to deal with that EA probably isnt a good move.

Just stick a letter through the letterbox asking if they would be open to a direct approach.
Worst case scenario they ignore you
They may have a contract with the EA and can't go direct but you won't know until you ask

Hmm all food for thought. I'm pretty sure they're not related. It's the manager and his deputy that I can't bear. There's one guy that's half ok there, but he wouldn't be the one dealing with it. I think I might just have to suck it up. Thanks everyone
