Is it worth paying £400 extra for Worcester Bosch?

I'm making boiler decisons. I need a 35kw boiler, that can run central heating.

Plumber says to go for Ideal Logic. He has one. His plumber's mate has one. The builder also has one. They have a 7 yr warranty and he is prepared to vouch for the customer service.

However, Which? (the consumer magazine) hate the Ideal Logic, though, giving it 58% in their reviews. They recommend Worcester Bosch, which they give 92%. The Worcester Bosch costs £400 more for all the bits needed for a 7 yr warranty.

Is the extra worth it? @PigletJohn what would you advise?

We got the filter fitted too, we also got the whole system chemically treated, and the sludge in the radiators agitated with a drill/magnet thing and the whole system power flushed for a couple of hours for free as part of the installation (we installed in early summer when they have less work so they were were keen for the job, they also fitted 4 x thermal radiator values for free too).

Before we did it the radiators had cool parts at the bottom/middle, now the whole radiator is hot and more efficient. Hopefully the filter will help maintain that for longer.

You won't regret it....and if you get something like hive to go along with it you'll wonder how you ever managed before!
( if it's particularly cold in the morning and the heatings not due to come on I can boost the heating for an hour by using my iPhone or IPad....bliss.)
not like when I was a student and had a useless shower that you had to get up an hour before you needed to use it so you could switch on immersion heater

Vailliant or wb

I think years ago Ideal released a boiler that was shockingly bad and it left their reputation in tatters, I am from a family of heating engineers (dad, cousins, uncles, brothers) and we all have an IDEAl boiler now. I have the Vogue one and it's fabulous x

worcester bosch is the reason I would never willingly have a combi boiler ever again.

Dissssssss-aaaaass-ter!

georgie - is there any truth in the rumour that engineers get commission/a kick-back from Ideal for fitting their boilers, or is that just nonsense?

Our plumber recommended WB, no problems 3 years later and don't find it noisy

Madbengalmum · 21/11/2017 18:51

You either want a Worcester or a Viessman end of story.

georgie262 · 22/11/2017 15:08

@whiskeyowl I couldn't say for certain without asking and I've recently put my phone through the washing machine so can't but I've never heard anything like that. I know my dad attended a special training course for valliant boilers and it meant he could offer an extended warranty but that's the only 'association' I've ever heard them talk about.

whiskyowl · 22/11/2017 16:28

georgie - I am just curious! People always say there is a commission, but then people also say that they've been abducted by aliens or that they think the world is run by lizard people. Would be intrigued to know!

Think I have offended my plumber by my choice. He seemed to think I was absolutely insane. But, as the client, I have the right to insanity I think!! Grin
