What would you do with this 60s fireplace

The gas fire is broken beyond repair so need to do something. The surround I didn’t mind when moving in as the house is 60s.

But...there are some cracked tiles and we don’t love it.

We are pretty skint. Can we retile it? I keep seeing fairly simple marble or stone used fireplaces on gumtree, is this an option or a nightmare to install.

Or just replace the gas fire for a more contemporary one. I can’t think. Any advice welcome.

Looks lovely!

That looks a lot better for very little effort.
I can see the windows in first photo are very 60s so your fire fits the house but you've given it a more modern look.
Really nice job!

And it was free as I had several cans in the shed. Very easy to do. I may now not paint the hearth as the black pops so much in real life...does this photo show that.

Not sure, might look for some bronze tile paint for the edges and shelf where it’s also chipped.

But it has improved it loads...appreciated the inputSmile

Also I might try the orientation of the mirror but I think I tried that before. I huge round one might be nice!

Looks fab! Are you going away from the bronze? I'm thinking a nice white framed mirror would make it look more fresh and modern Smile

Have taken the liberty of doing a photo grid as it was hurting my eyes scrolling back and forth Grin

Thanks for doing that! I do have a white one I could try Smile
Yes not a huge transformation ha! but it’s not as 80s and so I can tolerate it a bit longer until I can afford a nicer modern gas inset one. I don’t think I want to do the wood burner thing it seems like a lot of work.

Wow that looks super cool now!

Bill job, well done!

Wish ours had been as easy. We just ripped out a monstrosity of a fireplace, the hearth was 40cm high and extended to half the length of the room Shock It was such a huge job!!!!

MissD - What?! I can’t quite imagine. Sounds like a ghastly job. I just don’t have the stomach for this stuff anymore having been through a refurb with two small kids it’s left it’s mark, I just can’t!!!

I’m so pleased with my quick win. It took about 5 minutes and cost £0 I can’t wait to post my next decorating conundrum; this was so helpful to me Grin
