Is this wallpaper old fashioned?

I like it but I am not sure what it will look like on a whole wall.
Is it old fashioned?
(Ignore the patches of green paint, we have already decided against green)

I was going to say paint the bricks white, too. I saw that done on a makeover programme once, when I'd thought they'd have to do something more complicated.
I like the paper but depends on the rest of the room.

I love this squirrel and dove one, if you like the birds. It’s much bolder.

As said, I’d just get someone to plaster over the bricks, it should be less than a hundred quid.

And you can pick up a fire surround for less than a couple of hundred quid.

The owls ruin it.

I'd keep the fireplace and burn the wallpaper but it isn't my house.

sizenines · 29/10/2017 14:28

French houses commonly have this kind of wallpaper. It absolutely does not go with modern (British) furniture if you are in UK.

IIWM I would get rid of it - it's someone else's choice a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

ClashCityRocker · 29/10/2017 16:05

I like it but think it's more bedroom than living room.

LucyPevensie671 · 29/10/2017 16:12

I don't like the owls and I don't think it would like right on a whole wall

BattleaxeGalactica · 29/10/2017 16:42

I spent far too long a little while researching bird themed wallpaper earlier this year and ended up with a chinoiserie deal at a brilliant fiver a roll. The owl one is OK but the way they have their eyes closed makes it look more like a bedroom paper than a living room one. It's also quite pale so may not be making a bold statement if that's what you want.

It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks though. If you like it that's all that matters.

Bluntness100 · 29/10/2017 18:36

Actually I think it could look quite pretty in a little girls bedroom. Its a bit too bland for my tastes, and I hate to say it I think it looks cheap, (many cheap wallpapers don’t look cheap, you can’t tell but this I suspect you can so would be interesting to see the price Point ) I think though done well, with the right bedroom furniture and painted wallls it could work on a very, very young girls bedroom wall.

However, I’ve wallpaper in my house which I’m sure many wouldn’t like, but we do so that’s all that matters. I think though the ops unsure, which is different, we were sure and didn’t need to ask for opinions.

I really hope you don't like this one OP. It's rather expensive.

whiskyowl · 30/10/2017 05:41

Abigail Edwards makes some absolutely stunning owl wallpaper if (like me) you like owls. There's one in green and gold that is particularly stunning.

Some gorgeous stuff on the Abigail Edwards site. I'd never heard of her before.

Bluntness100 · 30/10/2017 09:06

Me neither, but that owl wallpaper from her is gorgeous.

NHSparent · 30/10/2017 09:11

I would paint the brick and lighten up the surround and then you have a completely different look for very little outlay.

carb0nated · 30/10/2017 09:53

I think the fireplace would be massively improved simply by replacing the awful fire itself to something more aesthetically pleasing. I wouldn't repaint anything until I'd lived with that for some time. It's really not that bad.

carb0nated · 30/10/2017 09:54

Do you actually need a fire there anyway? I've looked again and I think it's quite a nice fireplace. I like the bricks and the colours.

Kimlek · 31/10/2017 05:37

The wallpaper is ok for a little girl's bedroom. But I don't think it'll work with that fireplace. Sorry!

NotAgainYoda · 31/10/2017 06:01

I like feature walls and I love wallpaper, and birds. But I do think there's something about the delicacy and the colours of that one that makes it look a bit 1980s

I agree that the priority should be sorting out the fireplace. Then whatever you put up will be better. At the moment the old-fashioned fireplace will add to the effect of an old fashioned wallpaper

ForgivenessIsDivine · 31/10/2017 22:19

Opps.. I have fallen down a timorous beasties rabbit hole, last time that happened it was expensive!!
