Have you ever made a 'heat of the moment' offer on a house? How did it turn out?

Last weekend DH and I went to look at dream a house - on for 800k (London, I know I know). It needs tons of work, so we were hoping it would hang around and we'd get it for 90% of the asking. Come Monday, the EA told me there were 2 cash buyers going for it and my offer of 725k (with a short chain of us and a FTB) was 'way off' and wasn't worth putting in the table. Friday I had a mad moment of and offered 775k. Sellers make their mind up on Monday. Argh. Distract me please??

Yes, about this time last year we saw a derelict house on a good sized plot in an area we wanted to move to. We were up against three developers, but out bid them within 4 days. I'm not sure how it's worked out yet tbh. It took a long time to buy as as it was a probate sale, and then just before the contracts were exchanged the woman who had inherited it also died, so it had to go through probate again. Then we had planning permission refused, and it had to go to appeal. We lodged the appeal in May, and we will hear back about it in December.
