Worktop or cupboard space?

We're trying to design the kitchen in our 60's renovation house (for rental).

The kitchen will be L shaped with a breakfast bar. We could potentially have a whole bank of cupboards, eye level oven and fridge freezer on one wall, or we could utilise a portion of this for more worktop.

Which do people think is more important - cupboard space or worktop space?

Thanks.

the corner larder has a large amount of easily accessible shelving. So there's not much need for additional cupboards. I'd maximise pan drawers under the worktops.

OP, you said that your own kitchen is similar in layout, but is it similar in size? You're right - the dining area is too narrow to allow seats to be pulled out from the table and I can't see the dimensions of the kitchen anywhere. It all looks too cramped to function properly.

It's really awkward to have so little worktop beside oven and hob.

I don't know your exact dimensions but can you do something like this?

Corner larder I think just puts it in the wrong place and splits the worktop.
Also I wouldn't bother with a boiling tap, it saves the space of a kettle but takes up a whole base unit with the tank/heater equipment underneath.

You need about 230cm wide for chairs and a table, even with removing the peninsula I think you can only fit it in sideways. But that gives your tenant flexibility if they have guests to pull it into the centre of the room.

It's just we rented a house with a really large, expensive kitchen, (and a boiling tap) but it was so badly laid out we were constantly frustrated and glad to leave.

@NotMeNoNo Thank you. That layout is exactly what I've been mulling over this afternoon.

I would really like the bar or some kind of return but the dining space worries me.

I don't think it will be easy to dissuade my Fiance about the corner unit........

The thing is every kitchen has a compromise or something you like but just can't fit in the room. At the time you think it's awful but you soon forget! awesome larder you just need to show him some alternatives.

There should be a minimum 1.2m behind chairs to allow for getting past them when someone is sitting in them.
