Victorian townhouse kitchen ideas

Any ideas what to do with this kitchen?? We are ripping it out and starting again but need some inspiration! It will be opened up at the bottom so it will become a kitchen/diner. It's a victorian property but we would like to go modern.Any ideas/photos would be greatly appreciated as I really have no idea!

my first reaction is who needs so many cupboards in the kitchen? They just become dumping grounds for stuff that should be stored elsewhere, get ride of 1/2 of them and use the bottom end either as a diner area, or even a sofa or two as a quite place to sit and read etc.

Are you knocking into the room next door. I’d be tempted to put the kitchen in the squarer end of the room

Ah, when you say town house, I'm assuming you are talking about a 3/4 bed terrace with rear addition?

Thank you for your replies.I agree, way too many cupboards! It's a 5 bed semi detached with kitchen/utility at the back. The kitchen will be knocked through to the room through the door that can be seen in the photo to make it into a kitchen diner.

What will the dimensions be? Any plans to extend sideways?

Nice space, is that stone or lino on the floor?

Dimensions are 5 metres by 3 metres. It's horrible old lino that is definetely coming up!

Have you had a look yet to see what's under the lino?

No plans to extend sideways. Budget won't allow as we are renovating the whole house. That would be ideal though. I am thinking perhaps these units or similar???

Gloss will show up every hand print, grease splatter etc - be prepared for a lot of wiping down!

I think Vitalogy might be referring to some lovely tiles or wooden floorboards hidden underneath the lino. That could be quite nicely revived.

That's very true lillylollylandy I hadn't really thought about that. Kitchens are so hard to chose!

In a Victorian house it would be amazing to go contemporary with a slab door etc, but if you choose a matt painted finish it will keep it inline with the property a little bit; you know instead of having a clinical white gloss, minimalist kitchen in what I'm sure is a slightly more cosy style of home.
