Log burner quote 6.5k

I'm looking to see if anyone has had a log burner fitted recently, with everything included , the pipe work and installation, we live in a low cost living area in the East Midlands and I was shocked to get the quote of 6.5k. DH and I thought it would be around 3.5 -4k at the most. We can not stretch to that at all and my DH I know is going to be really disappointed when I tell him. Just hoping there is some alternative, like a supplier such as b&q or something and then we pay a trade person for installation. Looking to see what it's cost other people and if you've gone to a specialist to get it done.

We have a quote to install an existing one ( so no cost for actual burner) which is £1250 including building regs certificate, flue and small chimney repair.

Have they broken down the cost to show how much the actual burner is?

Person who quoted is HETAS registered.

Thanks for replying, we are also in Lincolnshire! :) I think we could source our own log burner for about 1k, how did you find your person/ company to fit it?

I did an search on the HETAS website ( www.hetas.co.uk) and selected a local one. Then talking to people they recommended him and he had done another one locally so it sealed it for me. As soon as we have moved in I will be getting him to do the work.

We were quoted £1500 for installation - no chimney so this included the lined flue which went straight up and out through the roof. Actual stove was an additional £1500 plus £300 for the stone hearth. Your quote sounds s lot!

Could it be such a high cost due to time of year? I'd imagine most installers would be pretty busy from now until February, mine was when we had it fitted a couple of years ago.

Does your quote include the log burner as 6.5k seems extremely high. Mine was in line with posters above in the 2k region.

That's what I thought it'sokaytobeshy. We like the Charnwood Island stove so it is £1,500 but the rest is what we thought. Also we would need the stone hearth/ brickwork done aswell.

We had a woodburner installed in May this year, it cost us about £3500 for everything except the hearth. We are in the South East. Your quote sounds very expensive.

I'm south west and mine was £1,900 all in including hearth; I already had the chimney but it wasn't lined so that was included in the price. My stove is a small one and was £500 in the sale (usually £600).

£6.5k is outrageous! Is the liner gold plated?? I didn't have to have scaffolding (one company quoted me for some sort of scaffold ladder thing) but even my most expensive quote was max £2,100.

This was September last year. I booked the fitting in July and they had a waiting list of six to eight weeks.

I just had mine installed for £3000, that includes a Charnwood C5 blu, a hearth, and installation. I'm in Yorkshire.

I recently paid £700 to fit a second hand Rayburn (which I bought off Facebook for about £100). The installation included removal of old oil chimney liner, pipes from Rayburn to the chimney, chimney test, some insulation over a beam, new chimney cowell and building regs paperwork.

I had an aga stove fitted in Scotland 2 months ago. This included all building and plastering around the stove, hearth slate, all liners, wood beam and underlights. £2.5k and they threw in a crate of logs which turned out to be a full pallett. Just as well I have a coal bunker attached to my house!! This was from a place that has a store front as well not off gumtree etc.

I got other quotes and nothing went over £3.5k, I would shop around.

How would you approach selling a used wood burner? Ours has had to be changed because we needed to line the chimney and could no longer use our vast Scandi lump. It's in the local paper and on Gumtree but any other ideas?

Ours cost £2,500 for installation, a decent mid range woodburner and flue lining, plus scaffolding. Your quote sounds way off unless you live in a very complicated house - so I'd look around a bit more.

I'm in south east and ours (installed last week) was 800 for the log burner and about £1.5k for installation including flue, roof work etc. Your quote sounds way too high!

OC Sock if it was me I would whack it on preloved and local facebook sites- its free and usually works a treat!

Does that include scaffolding?

We’ve just had a quote for a new liner at around £1600.00 inc vat. No scaffolding needed.

We will choose a woodburner separately.

Ours cost 4K. It’s the Charnwood Island 2. They needed to erect a tower as it’s a three storey house so it’s a very high chimney , and they did the full shebang inc chimney lining etc, but also some minor repointing

I’m not sure what you mean by you need thr hearth and brickwork done but your price seems incredibly high.

You need to use a hetas registered engineer, as it needs to be certified in line with building regs.

Ps I’m in the south east.
