Has anyone successfully painted kitchen cupboards?

We are moving next week. The kitchen cupboards in our new place are bare wood. Eventually we will have a new kitchen but in the mean time I’d like to paint it a pale grey.

Any success stories of painting kitchen cupboards? And what paint is best to use?

I did mine from cream to white then just replaced the worktop. Sugar soaped sanded then 2 coats of Ronseal cupboard paint. See pics below

My before and after pictures are on this thread.

We did it ourselves over a couple of evenings. Took doors off to do it and used farrow and ball paint. We didn't varnish and it lasted nearly 10 years with one touch up.

I painted mine with pale grey eggshell (can't remember the brand). Sanded them down before but otherwise no prep- straight into melamine units.

Yes. Got someone in to do it but it is fab! Looks like new!

I did it to our kitchen, used Laura Ashley egg shell. In all honesty it took forever and was quite an undertaking but it transformed the kitchen and saved us loads.

I painted a brown kitchen, it was a good quality non-wood (old) kitchen with kitchen paint (think it was Ronseal) it came out really well. I used a mini roller so there were no brush strokes.

I have some kitchen paint sitting in the corner for the current kitchen which was once dark green and had been painted cream when we bought the house, the wrap is warping where it has had kettles and tea making things steaming away under it so have to fix that back. I have seen a video where they remove all the wrap and then sand and paint the wood underneath but think it would be easier to buy new doors.

Not kitchen cupboards, but my under stairs cupboard was a treated pine and I had that painted about ten years ago, and it still looks great. Just like any wood, undercoat and a semi gloss type paint suitable for woodwork. I've had no chips, just slightly wearing near the handle. Looks good even now - probably the one bit of the house that can go a couple more years before needing another coat!

I had my kitchen resprayed about six months ago from dark wood to a pale Farrow & Ball colour - Skimming Stone, I think. It was done by a company who specialise in it, they took a day and a half, and I absolutely love my 'new' kitchen.

It wasn't that expensive, either and I'd happily recommend the company without any shadow of hesitation. Much much easier than DIY!

I had a thread on here back in May with before and after pictures, if you were interested...

We had ours done 2 years ago - got a professional firm to come in and spray them in a F&B colour. They did it in situ and it only took them half a day (small kitchen). We had to be careful with it and not get anything wet for 7 days to allow it to fully 'cure'. After that you could use/clean as normal. Cost £550.

It's been great - very cost effective and kitchen looked completely transformed. The paint hasn't chipped or discoloured and I've been really impressed by how durable it's been. So much so that we are planning to get the firm in to our new house to do the kitchen there. All we had to do was clear out the kitchen and clean all of the cupboard fronts - cream cleaner is a good degreaser although you need to wipe it off thoroughly to ensure it doesn't leave a film behind.

Updating this thread following a PM I've had for info about re-spraying - a before and after pic of my old kitchen:

ResistanceIsNecessary, can you recommend your sprayers please - they've done a great job!
