Buying Without Using a Solicitor.

Is there any reason to still use the full solicitor/conveyancing process when buying from a relative when the house is owned outright and the buyer is cash?
Is it still just a simple case of transferring the name on the deeds using the form obtained from the Land Registry (signatures witnessed by a solicitor) and transferring the money?

If all goes well, i don't see why not.

We actually used a solicitor when in this position, as part of another, wider piece of work, so can't really help, I'm afraid. Its the risk of what if something goes wrong or you miss something, that would put most people off.

The actual work is clerical, the knowledge covers 'what else needs to be considered'.

This used to be a thing in the 80s, as a way of saving money. Sadly there were a few horror stories, bad enough to convince me there are somethings it's worth paying a professional to do, especially something as expensive as buying a house.
