How big is your island? What's the space around it? I'm hoping for my hob to be on the island and seating. We've got to have a support pillar/post so I'm trying to work out the space required. Thank you!

Bubbles, unfortunately to support the house on top, the steel would be huge, limiting head height (even built into the above floor joists) and super duper expensive, so I’m trying to work with it

Have you had a 2nd opinion re the steel? Ours is 2 storey and we managed to avoid a pillar.

We have steels supporting upper floor in open plan layout. Not that expensive and certainly better than a pillar. Why is there no Head height between the ground floor and the floor above?
