Is this a high quote for Worcester boiler?

RubbishMantra · 09/10/2017 23:05

Been quoted £4495 for supply and fit of a Worcester Greenstar compact 24si. Will go in the same place as existing combi. Also a system flush, water softener, several pipes moved, and a radiator and valve (supplied by me) installed. it's about double what I thought it'd be...ConfusedShock

Forgot to say, I live in the South easy, not London though.

Googling the boiler model, it comes up as costing circa 1k. So 3.5k for labour sounds beyond extortionate.

Unless the ‘several pipes moved’ is actually a mammoth undertaking.

sweetkitty · 09/10/2017 23:14

We were 2.5K for a new Worcester boiler at the start of the year from British Gas with Hive. No pipes or radiators moved though.

StillSeekingResponsibleAdult · 09/10/2017 23:15

I was quoted £2500 by British Gas for a boiler change to a Worcester 29, including flush and moving the flue. Not sure how the flue compares with pipes/ radiators, but we did bin BG off because we got a much cheaper quote elsewhere and they have a reputation for being top end of the price range.

Over £4k would definitely have had me running for the hills!

SheRaaarghPrincessOfPower · 09/10/2017 23:17

I think new boiler only is about £2.5k (ours was, a couple of years ago

Get another couple of quotes

RubbishMantra · 09/10/2017 23:23

I'm practically in shock. I wonder if he typed a wrong digit?

Is it British Gas? I got a quote like that for a similar amount of work. Local plumber did it for under £2000

RubbishMantra · 09/10/2017 23:38

It's a local plumber Lapdance Oh no, will have to faff with more quotes. Life has bee n a non stop gathering of quotes of late!

I paid £3,000 for a Worcester boiler, new radiators and new pipework throughout the house - that was for a house in Yorkshire, two years ago. And then afterwards I wished I'd shopped around a bit more, because I thought it was a bit steep.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 09/10/2017 23:47

We were under 2k for ours.

RubbishMantra · 09/10/2017 23:57

I'm comforting myself that the fellow who quoted has made a mistake. Or having a jolly jape?

I just paid £1800. London. Pimlico plumbers had quoted £4000 claiming they were cheaper than British Gas.

RubbishMantra · 10/10/2017 00:15

Sorry, missed your post, Jojo. Pipe stuff minimal, 2 to be got rid of, 2 going to be runninng through a wall. All in same 2m area.

Yes it's too much. We had a Worcester fitted in the spring and it was £1800. Not sure on the make and DH is asleep in bed, so I can't ask him. It has an app that we can control the heating at home whilst we're out.

somewhereovertherain · 10/10/2017 05:15

We had the same boiler fitted - moved to a new location and two extra radiators for 1/2 that in the North West but an expensive area.

LapdanceShoeshine · 10/10/2017 06:48

Maybe try a couple from here, Mantra? (Mine wasn't one of these though so I don't know what their prices are like)

Thanks Lapdance, will make a note of those. Was on the blower first thing this morning to another plumber to arrange a quote. Thank fuck I haven't actually paid for the kitchen yet, this looks like it could put it back a bit. I put all my eggs in one basket, as this person came recommended through a friend, so didn't think I'd need to bother with any others...

Christ that’s steep! I paid £1500 for a Worcesester Bosch (suitable for a 3 bed house) a year ago & they fitted a thermostat too. I live in the Midlands.

GreyOwls · 10/10/2017 11:32

Forgot to say it was a Greenstar 30i.

Dont forget they’ll get them at trade prices too. The above is currently for sale online for under £800.

Firewall · 14/10/2017 09:36

Hi, could it be your water softener making the difference? If it's a proper one I've been quoted £1600-£2000 for one which would make the difference. We recently had a new boiler installed for £3000 near London.

fialor · 14/10/2017 13:16

That is extortionate!
We had a new one fitted just under a year ago for 2200 including labour.

Longdistance · 14/10/2017 13:19

I think we paid about £2k for our Worcester to be fitted when it packed up 2 years ago in the snowy weather.

Firewall · 14/10/2017 13:53

(It should be almost half that price without the water softener)

LadyRosalieBeauchamp · 14/10/2017 14:01

Do you live in an expensive area? If you do (as I do) there are some plumbers builders etc who do a quote and then up it. That is what my builder told me after I got a ridiculous quote

TynesideBlonde · 14/10/2017 14:20

Ours was changed at Easter- £2600 inc system flush, new flue, moving of pipes, some small works to roof associated with flue.
