Plastering bathroom walls after refit

My refit is starting on Monday. I'm only having the bath area and toilet/sink wall tiled.

I've just started stripping off the wallpaper and the plaster is coming off the walls in some places I know it's not ideal, but is it a major issue to have the walls skimmed after everything else is done? And how much will it cost me to have maybe 4m of wall replastered?

Replastering should be done before the bathroom is refitted. Alternatively water resistant plaster board can be used instead. If the plaster is really poor, get it removed. Unfortunately, that is a dirty, messy job.

If you're wall papering again then no need to skim just use filler in the holes. If it'll be painted and it's coming off leaving bare brick it'll need more than a reskim, it'll need filling first then skimming to flatten it off.

We have just had ours done and found out when the bath was taken out hat there was mold behind the old tiles around the bath and the plasterboard was all damp. Ended up ripping it all out and redoing, reboarding and replastering. We used a mixture of concrete boards and waterproof plasterboard. Total cost of builder was £1100 but he did the tiling too.

And took all old tiles off and removed all the rubbish too.

This is panicking me! I don't have £1100 to spare on top of the cost of what he's already quoted. I did say to him when he came to quote that I was a bit worried about the state of the walls for painting. He said it looked like it would be fine, but he only peeled off a tiny bit!

I knew it wouldn't go as smoothly as I hoped.

Sorry didn’t want to panic you. We only finished ours this week and it has been a nightmare from start to finish and yesterday I noticed a crack in the new bath and have had to order in a specialist bath repair man as no way am I ripping it all out again.

And now and the crack in the bath!
