Shall we take these units down?

We are revamping our kitchen rather than replacing as the layout still really works; we are changing the floor, ceiling lights and cupboard doors etc. We are considering removing these units above the sink. We will have one whole new floor length cupboard as part of the revamp but I can't decide if ample storage is more important than the aesthetic look above the sink.
Thoughts please.

Miaow, I don't know what a MN kitchen is but I think I would say that I am lucky enough to have a decent sized kitchen.
I just need to be perhaps a bit more creative with stage ideas to comesnate for losing these cupboards.
And losing them we most definitely are now; I'm even twitchy just standing here next to them knowing that they are uneven.
I might ask DH if we can take them down this weekend Grin

I'd take down the end 3 (so the bookend and the 2 shorties). Would then live with it and consider putting in a lovely floating shelf.

I'd keep something. We've got open shelving and find it to be the prime location for glasses and crockery. It's very practical.

Namechanger am I being daft or does the Oxford Shelving Company just sell brackets? Don't they sell shelves or can I just not navigate the site!

  1. Take everything out of that cupboard.
  2. chuck it out or put it elsewhere.

Does it fit? Get rid.
Doesn't fit? Leave it. Grin

Hah allegretto has it.
I'm another top cupboard hater who has open shelves. I'd put a gorgeous plate rack with shelves and things if I had wall above my sink. (Mine is in front of the window)

Kitchen is for living in not looking at so do what makes sense for your needs. Secondary is the look.
Unless of course you're on 100% fitted appliances and one of those garage things and a pop up cooker hood!

Be careful and check before you take them down: they might be screwed or bolted to the cupboards to the right, and if they are you'll be left with very visible holes in that side which will be difficult to fill or hide.
