Floor fitters haven't done a very nice job. Don't know what to do?

Today we had the floor fitters in to redo my bathroom and down stairs bathroom flooring,

I'm really disappointed. I've been waiting ages for the floors to be done and the edging looks really scruffy and there are big air bubbles.

They were meant to remove the old flooring (the lady in the shop said they had to do this so the adhesive on the new floor would stick down)
They didn't remove the old flooring. They stuck the new one on top?!

You can see some of the old flooring on the scruffy bits they have left behind the sink!

The lady in the shop also said that they would put sealant around the edging of the floor but they said they wouldn't do that yet because the floors would move?

We rang the shop and they said they would have to re fit the floor? I don't really want the same men coming back. It would be very awkward wouldn't it? Confused they weren't that friendly anyway. I'm sure they would be even less friendly having to come back. I would feel very uncomfortable. I am a bit of a wuss with these things!

I don't know what to do. I feel like I've just waisted my money. I feel stupidly quite sad.

Also complain he turned up unannounced with his wife in a Sunday . See what he does tomorrow and if it’s not good, stand your ground.

This man has more to lose than you. Just remember that.

whoopsiedaisydangle · 08/10/2017 16:30

I'm going to be tough tomorrow! My mum said she'll come round if the fitter is a nob! (She lives 20 seconds down the lane)

Got the fitter the electricitan and the internet people all coming tomorrow! Busy day.
I've just come home to a swarm of lady birds on my house but that's another story!

Something has to go right soon! I'm not going to be taken for I ride! I work in management, I'm no push over but never been in a situation like this before.
I'm nervous about any confrontation from the man as its in my home.
Thank you everyone! Fingers crossed all goes smoothly and quickly.

Hope you've kicked ass whopsie and they'll be sending out a new fitter to put it all right!

whoopsiedaisydangle · 09/10/2017 12:12

Been ringing and ringing the fitter with no answer! Rang carperright about half and hour ago and they said the fitter will be here around 4 Envy I really wish I went with a different company! I live and learn though!

all other work men been and gone including an electrician who tried to cancel this morning but I wouldn't let him so I'm more than ready to be stern with the floor fitter! Grin

Gosh you poor thing. Get your mum to be with you at 4 for moral support.

Badweekjustgotworse · 09/10/2017 14:12

Phone them back and say that you don't want the same fitter as he bitched the job in the first place and has already tried to Finn you off with botched fix job, tell them you want to speak to the manager to discuss the situation and you can send photos

whoopsiedaisydangle · 09/10/2017 15:11

They have just been and gone in under 10 minutes. My daughter was having a tantrum so I had to deal with that at the same time Envy

The sealant they have just done looks like something a 10 year old could have done. Smears on the floor and gaps under the towel rail and behind the sinks.

I just want to cry. I know this is probably a silly problem to have but I've had a terrible day.

I was clearly not happy at first glance but before I could really have a proper look (with my screaming 10 month old on my hip) they were out the door and down the road in the van. One of the men didn't say bye he just left and the other said bye then and closed the door quickly behind him.

I've just taken videos of the floors. Rang husband at work, he's not happy. I want to ring carpet right now but I'm scared that they will just send the same men around again and they will get defensive.

I tend not to judge a book by its cover but these men look rather intimidating and weren't that friendly.

The sealant is ultra thin, has gaps in and is smeared in places. The old floor had really thick straight sealant.

I'm just sat on the floor in disbelief. Sad

Ffs! Were they the same fitters? I’d insist on someone from the actual store coming round to see the standard of work from the fitters they’re farming work out to, and insist it’s replaced and done properly.
Sounds like you’ll have a fight on your hands, though, best of luck.
Oh and fgs have someone with you when they come back.

healthyheart · 09/10/2017 15:17

I think you need to get the lady in the shop to come and see it. Can you take photos on an iPad or something and go see her saying this? In the meantime ring your credit card company ( if this is how you paid) saying this payment needs a note putting by it as it very contentious. Good luck.

AssassinatedBeauty · 09/10/2017 15:18

Once you've got yourself together, I would phone Carpet Right and tell them this is unacceptable. Presumably they haven't relaid the floor properly, just done the bad sealant job? I'd be very clear and say that you do not want the same fitters to return, but you want the floor relaid properly and the sealant redone properly.

In my (non expert) opinion they are in breach of contract by not doing the work to a decent standard. Do you have a written agreement (on paper or email) with what was intended to be done?

Shadow666 · 09/10/2017 15:19

That’s shit Sad

I think you need to tell them you want a full refund and not to send anymore carpet fitters around.

They really do have an appalling reputation

whoopsiedaisydangle · 09/10/2017 15:41

They came an hour early so didn't get chance to get my mum to come around. The men were here 10 minutes if that.

@Shadow666 the reviews are awful Shock

This will teach me to shop around!

Going to have a cup of tea now the baby is asleep (thank goodness my head is spinning!)
And then I think I'll actually go into carpet right and show them the videos and pictures.
Hopefully I'll get some sort of refund...

I'm thinking I could do a better job on edging to be honest! Is it that hard? Or I could get my dad to try, he's always done the bathroom sealant in their home.

My trust of work men has gone right down. Angry

Don’t started messing around with it yourself, you won’t have a leg to stand on.

Flamingale · 09/10/2017 19:02

OP are you mad? Don't you dare go anywhere near that flooring.

Screaming baby or no screaming baby as soon as they got the sealant out you should have thrown the fitters out of the house!

First thing in the morning you have to get yourself and the baby down to Carpet Right and show them the photos on your mobile.

Tell them that you're not leaving until they give you a date for the vinyl to be pulled up and replaced by different fitters.

And if there are other customers in the shop say it all very loudly!

Also why on earth is your partner not helping you with all of this. Unfortunately the fitters have seen you as a soft touch and acted accordingly. I bet they wouldn't have been so brazen in cutting corners if a male had been around.

hiddenmnetter · 09/10/2017 19:56

How did you pay for this work OP? If you paid even the smallest portion of it on your credit card, you could be entitled to a full refund through your credit card company (often called section 75 protection). As a side note, in future, always try and pay for these things on credit card, or put a notional amount on your credit card, and then pay it off.

As others have said, do not touch the flooring until this issue is resolved.

Once it is actually all resolved (if the resolution is a refund and not the works completed) then laying vinyl flooring is really not that difficult. You can buy cheap vinyl to have a go first and see how you do, but it's quite straightforward laying vinyl flooring.

This could be my story. we had more or less the same problem with carpetright. i would advise take photos, write it all down. contact trading standards or citizens advise. did you pay carpetright in full or did they quote you the fitting price in the shop then get you to pay the fitter direct. if so its illegal for them to quote the fitting price if they are not legally responsible for the work. They do it so they can say the fitting is not their problem. THEY ARE SHARKS

whoopsiedaisydangle · 10/10/2017 12:21

Carpet right have said they will get a new fitter out on Thursday to re lay and re seal the floor properly.... hopefully this other fitter will be better. Obviously there not charging us.

I'm at work on Thursday but husband will be here with the baby.

Next door are having their bathroom floors done today and I'm feeling very green! There's looks lovely.

Glad carpetroght are putting it right and sending out a new fitter

Shadow666 · 10/10/2017 22:45

I really hope they get it right this time!

HideHide · 12/10/2017 12:50

I hope you’ve had a better result today Whoopsie

whoopsiedaisydangle · 12/10/2017 15:54

No fitters turned up today to rectify the job, my husband waited in until 2pm.

We Went to carpet right after I finished work with husband, they rang the fitter there and then and he was adamant it was a good job! Angry they weren't even sorry for the other fitter not turning up today.

Carpet right said they won't refund us the fitters cost as we paid that to the fitter in cash. They were really unhelpful! We were in the shop for about an hour. The staff were awful.

As a PP said we paid for the actual flooring on a credit card so we could claim a refund via the bank for it being substandard work? Confused

Shocking!

That's a lesson I've learned in never using Carpetright! I'd go on FB and twitter and tell the story complete with photos!

dietstartsmonday · 12/10/2017 16:30

Email head office and give then the whole story plus all evidence.

yes you probably could get a refund of what you paid on your credit card, but you are still out of pocket and should not have to be.

CEO email is [email protected] and complaints is [email protected]

Use both emails addresses and you should get some action.
