Dulux easycare - opinions?

Has anyone used Dulux Endurance/Easy care? What's the paint quality like, and is the finish as good as with ordinary Dulux paint?

I am attracted by that advert where they just wipe the dirt off the walls, but I'm also quite particular about having an extremely good finish on my paintwork! Grin

Oooh, rubbishmantra - I do love Chalky White! I'm really glad you love it in your space. I'm thinking of Jasmine White for most of my ground floor because I want something with just a touch of green in it - one of the rooms is going to be right by the garden and I want to reflect the green leafiness. It'll be late spring before I see that effect, though - don't reckon my extension will be finished before January, when there's not a deciduous leaf in sight! Grin I might use Chalky White in my hall, though.

My whole house is painted in Endurance. I've never found it a problem to roller on, but I don't hang about, I'm a speedy painter!

I've washed down the hallway walls with sugar soap to remove child handprints and it comes up great.

Just tried 1st coat of easycare and it is a nightmare. Walls prepared properly (I have been doing this for more years than I care to mention!) and as previous posters have said, if you even stray into the previous painted area by a millimetre it pulls the paint off the wall. Have stopped to research this on the internet! Currently the room looks a mess, have decided to leave it to dry and then give it a second coat and pray!

Granny44 in my experience the first coat is as you describe then the second coat goes on fine!

I hated the easy care for that very reason, peeling bloody paint everywhere.

I was really wary about using Dulux Easy Care after reading reviews on mumsnet and elsewhere online.....but I really wanted to wipe marks off the walls without the lovely matt finish going shiny.

Dulux Customer Helpline gave great advice :-
Prepare the suraface. We were painting over ordinary Dulux Matt emulsion which was fine but don’t paint directly over ‘soft sheen’ cos it won’t grip.

Even painting over matt emulsion, we sanded lightly over the whole surface to ensure a ‘key’, followed by washing down with ‘sugar soap’ solution and rinsing with plain water.

We turned the heating off in the room and put strips of newspaper over the window glass to keep the glaring sun out (south facing room)

As advised, we stirred the paint gently and cut in around the edges of just one wall at a time, before filling in using a decent synthetic (but not foam) roller for the main parts of each wall and let it dry completely for 4 hours.

Because I was still nervous about this paint, based on bad reviews from experienced DIYers, we very lightly sanded, washed down with weak sugar soap solution, rinsed and allowed to dry thoroughly.

For the second coat we changed tack and cut in all the walls then left it to dy completely overnight. Next day we filled in all the walls with the roller (it had been kept wrapped in cling film since the first coat)

First and second coat went on like a dream with roller and brush, lovely paint, creamy and covers well. Amount of paint on the roller is important - not too much to be drippy, not too little that it won’t spread,

It is also important to work fairly quickly, not a mad dash but don’t dawdle and don’t go back to a previous section because, once its tacky, it won’t like being rollered again.

Once the second coat is dry, the surface finish is perfect. We’re really pleased with it. Don’t know yet how it will wear but thought it was important to give a view on its application in case other people are unsure about using it.

I have endurance paint in my daughter s bedroom for 6 years with no problems. She drew on her walk with a biro and I was able to scrub it off with a magic eraser sponge. I've wiped other marks with baby wipes or soapy water with no issue.
