Time scale for a homebuyers survey?

I accepted an offer on my property 4 weeks ago today and they still haven't had a survey? They've had a mortgage valuation (which was free) so haven't really committed anything yet. The house is 1970 so I'm assuming they'll have one but when my agent chased them they said they, 'weren't planning on arranging one at this stage'??

I did a thread about surveys myself last week.

Apparently there is no obligation to have a homebuyers survey these days.

So you can assume they are not having one done, and the purchase is ticking along nicely, searches are being done, etc, unless you hear otherwise.

Thanks chic. I just assumed everyone had one these days?

We didn't have one on the property we just bought. Just the mortgage survey.

Really Honey? What year was it built? And if it wasn't newish what made you decide against it?

We sold in December. Our buyers only had the basic valuation mortgage - on a 120 year old house!!
But they did have the electrics and gas checked closer to completion.

Wow! Maybe I'm being worried for nothing then!

It was a really old property but had a timber/damp garuntee for work done a year ago on the whole property and there were clearly no structural issues. Advise from family was that they aren't worth the money and they will just tell you all the things that 'could go wrong'.

Oh an recent electric rewiring again with a 20 year garuntee.
