Neff ovens and Quooker taps - why are they so popular?

Stuckinstressville · 01/10/2017 15:14

We are commencing a huge renovation and have been asked to pick our kitchen etc and appliances.

Looking at Ovens on various sites Neffs seem to come out as the popular choice. They are also £££.

Before i jump on the bandwagon, hive mind, are they worth it?

Whilst we are thinking about this.. Quooker taps? yay or nay?

@stuckinstressville Mine is the brushed steel one so was about 425 or so. I just kept checking online and the price fluctuated so I phoned up and managed to squeeze a bit more off it. The black/white/cream/lime/orange were cheaper and also nice depending on your look. They've just brought out a copper/rose gold one. I drink lots of herbal tea but not at all an expert at brewing and I find it fine for hot drinks. I just definitely wanted one and didn't want two taps and couldn't afford the fusion. I'm just quite minimalist i didn't like the thought of two taps . To that end I also had the worktop fabricators to cut an extra hole for a washing up liquid dispenser so I don't have to have anything out on the island. That was the best £30 I spent!

I agree slightly re the flexible hose issue. I did also want one. But in the end the need for boiling and a single tap won over the flexi issue.

I’ve got a Neff hide and slide Pyrolytic and I love it dearly. You’ve just reminded me to run a cleaning cycle actually. NB that pyrolitic ovens need a more robust electrical connection than other ones so you do need to decide it at the beginning of the kitchen work.

AesopsMables · 05/10/2017 10:31

We looked at these and ended up with
Franke Minerva boiling tap (suited kitchen better)
Miele oven and Miele oven/micro combo (lowest price point and same cost as Neff highest price)

Neff was too dark against white units

So glad we didn't buy Neff as the Miele ovens are the best I have ever used.

Couldn't afford induction so stuck with Neff.

My advice is get what suits your kitchen and will last, don't worry about it all matching in brand name
Don't bother with John Lewis integrated fridge as just crap and noisy

ImminentDisaster · 05/10/2017 10:36

My two best things in my kitchen are my warming drawer and the boiling tap. We are going to have to move soon and I'm fairly distraught at having to leave them! Grin

Ruhrpott · 05/10/2017 10:57

I would take them with you and replace with a normal tap. We just retro fitted our boiling tap to existing tap hole in sink without getting a new kitchen. So you could always put one in the new house.

guilty100 · 05/10/2017 11:27

I don't get the point of boiling water taps. I've never felt like it was that much effort using a kettle! Can someone explain?

Cacofonix · 05/10/2017 11:38

Blodpod kettles don't work when you have a power cut too!

I was a bit meh about having a quooker tap but DH insisted and I have to say it is fab. So easy to use and looks nice too. I thought I would miss having a kettle to boil but I don't and you can put boiling water straight into pans for veggies to cook etc. Quick and easy! Also if you buy direct from Quooker they do installation for free.

We have Miele ovens and they are bloody fab, if I may say so. My mum has Neff and loves hers.

Blodplod · 05/10/2017 13:33

Sorry I thought by putting Aga kettle it would be obvious that I meant on the gas hob. Grin

Blodplod · 05/10/2017 13:34

Oh! I did say Aga kettle FOR THE GAS! Grin

dynevoran · 05/10/2017 18:36

@guilty100 it's obviously just a gadget as any other is. It means for me that when I fill a pan using it and put it on the induction hob on max it's boiling again within literally 15 seconds. It's so much quicker than using a kettle! Also I'm a bit scatty so tended to ask people if they wanted a drink and then put the kettle on and forget. Now I just make it straight away. I love it.

eternalopt · 05/10/2017 19:38

Same question as someone else - are the hot water taps power hungry given that they keep the water constantly hot?

dynevoran · 05/10/2017 20:17

Our bills are maybe a few pounds more at the most than before we had it.

RubbishMantra · 05/10/2017 23:08

Ooh, what do you mean by robust, Calman? Like a higher amp spur or something?

BakedBeans47 · 05/10/2017 23:10

I have a Neff slide and hide oven. I decided as we were doing our kitchen for the only time in forever I was going to get decent applicances and I liked this one from the bake off. We were going to get a Quooker but in the end it was an indulgence too far for us.

BakedBeans47 · 05/10/2017 23:15

Oh and I think the Neff oven is amazing. Maybe that’s just in comparison to my previous crap hotpoint one which decided to conk out in the middle of cooking Christmas Dinner last year Shock

CalmanOnSpeeddial · 06/10/2017 07:00

I’m not exactly sure about the electrics - I understood it at the time but have forgotten it now. Definitely needed an upgrade to our slightly iffy wiring though because pyrolitics get much hotter and potentially need to draw more power.

Notonthestairs · 06/10/2017 12:50

I have just ordered my Neff H&S ovens. I was advised to get the version with knobs on the control panel not buttons. The button versions are more complicated to set up and easier to turn on by accident according to the man in the showroom - although I'm sure it's just a question of getting used to them - I am both lazy and clumsy so went for the easy to use controls!

RubbishMantra · 06/10/2017 13:25

Thanks Calman Will mention it to my electirician. He's tres thorough and wanted to see certs. for the electrical tests carried out from when I bought the house. I burst into tears (long story) and I think the very competitive quote he gave me was as a result of that!

I did consider a 3 in one tap, not a Quooker one though. Then you've got to replace the filter every 3-6 months at 30 quid a pop, so the price of a new kettle a few times a year really. I live in a very chalky water area and quite liked the idea of having filtered tap water though.

Stuckinstressville · 06/10/2017 19:24

Am feeling like I opened a good thread and now eating baked beans for a year as whole renovation is costing ConfusedShock

Absolutely adore my Quooker.
Instant hot drinks, boiling water for pasta, veg etc. Hot stock. It is two years old and has not caused any problems.

PickAChew · 06/10/2017 19:29

My oven is an ancient Smeg, but I'd change it for a Bosch/Siemens/neff in a heartbeat because the brand group is just so much more reliable than others.

Hot water taps scare, though. It's not like I need near boiling water so often that using the kettle is a hardship.

RubbishMantra · 06/10/2017 20:08

Oh the irony, Stressville! Too skinted by the re-fit to actually, y'know, COOK in our swanky new ovens. Who needs food anyway. Grin

Waterfeature · 06/10/2017 23:32

Our Quooker is fab. Means boiling pasta, rice etc is so much faster. Love it.

Very very disappointed with my (non-fancy) Neff oven though. Thermostat is crap so it’s consistently about 10% cooler than the dial says. Even got the engineer out who said 10% was the normal tolerance. Heats unevenly, too, so half the chips are over cooked and half are raw. Would never buy a Neff oven again.
