Washing machine location

Hi I am considering some options. I have a utility room which currently houses washing machine and condenser drier. There is no ventilation (other than opening the back door, which is not always possible) and due to the location of pipes and wires it would be difficult to create space for a fan which vents externally. I need to move my fridge freezer into this room too, which will mean I lose cupboard space. I'm therefore considering moving the WM and drier into the garage, which is connected to the house and not far away. Plumbing would be straightforward. I therefore get to keep more cupboard space, solve the ventilation problem and the FF isn't next to drier. Can anyone foresee any problems with this arrangement? Does it sound odd?

Bump. I am basically changing the utility into a pantry.

I wouldn't want to (but then again I use my washing machine multiple times a day).

Is there a way to access the garage without going outside? If not... that will be a total arse in winter/when it rains (all the time).

We have our main (big) freezer in a detached garage and I find it irritating to have to go outside to get something I forgot to bring in - I'd be raging if I had to keep going out there to deal with my washing!

If you can access the garage from the house, then I'd look at creating a proper utility space in the garage (cupboards, sink, work surface etc) and the have the existing one as a proper pantry as you plan.

I have had the washer and dryer in the garage in our last two houses, both of which were connected to the house. I like it - you can't hear the thing spinning, you can have a pulley drying rack and I have crates into which I sort the washing by colour which all gets left out but out of sight

If it's your only fridge, don't move it out of the main kitchen. I speak as someone whose fridge freezer was in a different room for six years. Pain in the neck.

Do you have your tumble dryer on top of the washing machine rather than side by side? If not would this be a solution?

is there an external wall? If so, please append a photo or explain why you can't ventilate through it.

Thanks everyone. Yes there is an external wall but it's mostly taken up by a door and the rest has an external soil pipe and external lights fitted against it.

Yes, I do and my mother does. My garage is attached to the house so I open an internal door for access. Mother's is in a detached garage, it hasn't been a problem for the past 35 years for her (it's actually a shorter walk to hang things on the line that it is going to the tumble dryer!)
