Just that really?
I know there are loads of threads but I’m using my phone and can’t find any examples of what to write

We are a young couple looking for our forever home. We are hoping to find a 3/4 bedroom rural/semi rural house with plenty of outside space
If you, or anyone you know, may be considering selling in the near future we would love to hear from you.

I want it to sound a little more personal without going on too much.

"Forever home" - uuuugh. I know Kirsty A has coined this but it sounds awful. Just say a home you would like to live in for many years. I assume you are trawling the neighbourhood to seek out suitable houses or just picking the ones you like the look of. Can't you just ask the estate agents? Make friends with them do you get to be the first to know of houses on the market.

FunSpunge · 29/09/2017 14:02

@BubblesBuddy I have been on the EA “mailing list” for nearly 2 years. They don’t contact me until it’s on rightmove and then the houses are not what we want.
I am desperate and feel like I need to be proactive and hope we have some luck!
Round here people want to sell by word of mouth so this is a way of getting us known to friends/relatives

If it sounds eurgh, how can I write it to make it not eurgh?

I think a well targeted letter is a good idea, and know someone who bought their dream house this way.
But no, not forever home.

wowfudge · 29/09/2017 14:31

I agree that forever home is mawkish and to be avoided. I would tailor the letter to say something about the street and maybe the specific house and say you are looking for a family home you can live in in many years. Maybe even say you are keen to stay in the area because if x, y, z?

wowfudge · 29/09/2017 14:32

For many years

FunSpunge · 29/09/2017 14:43

Dear homeowner
We are a young couple looking to buy a long term home in this immediate area. We have been looking to buy locally for many months as our friends and family all reside in (name of village)
We are looking for a 3/4 bed property with plenty of outdoor space as we are both keen gardeners
If you, or anyone you know, are thinking of selling in the near future, we would be grateful if you could contact us.
We are chain free and can be as flexible as needed.
Kindest regards
Fun

Yes. It seems you are in a neighbourhood where houses sell quickly. EAs have to work a bit harder around here! However I agree with wowfudge and say why you want to live in the area and perhaps a rough idea of what you can afford. Are there no new developments or are you very particular hence the problem?

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 29/09/2017 14:45

Take out the 'plenty of outdoor space'. Someone may think theirs isn't enough, when it is.

But it's fine.

Include email address as well as phone numbers .

FunSpunge · 29/09/2017 14:57

Noted!

@BubblesBuddy houses aren’t selling round here but all the houses which are coming on are suburbia. You often find in rural villages, the type of house we are after, sell through word of mouth before they even get to EA.

I have heard one of the houses on this lane may be thinking of selling which is why I’m letter dropping. I want to get ahead of others as we have been very unlucky so far Sad

Definitely worth doing. Good luck

BubblesBuddy · 29/09/2017 16:01

I am in a rural village and everyone sells through agents, judging by the signs. I guess if it is highly desirable and easy to sell, they don't, but often prices go higher with competition rather than just selling to one favoured person. I do sympathise with you, just not encuntered this problem before.

wowfudge · 29/09/2017 16:06

A friend lives in a village where people put cards up in the local post office and shop when they are selling or looking to buy. Might be worth putting a card up yourselves in the local shop or pub?
