Bristol/Bath environs - where ticks all our boxes?

We're thinking of relocating somewhere near Bristol/Bath. Our criteria are:
Within easy reach of the city but not in it
Very good school for dd who'd be going into sixth form
Good dog walking area
Choice of livery yards - dd rides and we'd want her to be able to have her own horse (probably loaning)

Bear Flat, Bath.

Gah! Pressed post before I'd finished ..
Ideally somewhere you didn't have to get in the car to get a pint of milk
So far we've liked Chew Magna, Chewton Mendip, Blagdon and Clevedon. Not that keen on places like Nailsea or Keynsham. Any other ideas of where to look?
We'd be aiming to move in the summer of 2019 so have time to research.

Backwell? Very good sixth form and close to Bristol

Trampire · 24/09/2017 15:10

My dd goes to Chew Valley School. She's only Y8 but it has a great Sixth Form. I'm in a south Bristol, but the villages around CHew Valley are lovely.

I also like Backwell and Flax Bourton. Although it can be pricey.

I would add that I love Clevedon too. We often hang out there as a family in Autumn/winter (when it's quiet 😀). It has a lovely feel.

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't know Bath as well as Bristol so am not familiar with Bear Flat but I think it's a bit more urban than what we're after but will look again. And Backwell seems to be very much a distant suburb of Bristol, rather along the lines of Keynsham but I may well be wrong! Any more ideas??

Marshfield. Large Village outside of Bath not far from M4 so commutable to Bristol or Bath. Lovely countryside. Easy to travel to excellent state 6th forms in Chippenham.

Bath villages - Wellow, southstoke, monkton Combe all lovely but what's your budget? Independent or state?
You can live in Bath and be in the countryside within 10 mins.

I lived in Salford, right by the river Avon, for a few years. Good regular buses for a teen into both Bath and Bristol. Fab dog walking across the water medows or for miles along the Bristol - Bath cycle path. Few nice pubs and a couple of convenience type stores and takeaway.

Don't know about sixth form though, mine were preschool when I lived there.

Budget up to 800K, preferably state sixth form. Will check out all those suggestions too, thanks

Out of genuine interest, what's wrong Keynsham? I left there when I was about 12 and have been back once. It looked slightly rougher than I remember but that might just be down to fuzzy, gilded childhood memory

PurpleDaisies · 24/09/2017 22:11

If you're wanting good links to the city, Long Ashton is nice.

Frazzle76 · 24/09/2017 22:13

We live in Chippenham and the villages around us have everything you've asked for. Plus train. We chose it because you get a lot more for your money (although at 800k there's prob not much you can't have) but the electrification is supposed to up property prices here by 20%! Hardenhuish sixth form has a good rep too. Hope this helps and good luck x

Villages that are an easy commute to the M4 are more expensive than those that don't give an easy commute. Avoid paying the M4 premium unless you need easy access. I.e. South Bath much cheaper than north Bath.
