Double yellow lines just put outside my new home

Moved in April. Now double yellow lines have been put outside my house. Today! I could off street park, the council have no worries about this, despite no dropped curve. However, I'm next to a church and people who are disabled can still park on the lines.

What do I do?

But would you block off someone's exit from their parking space to get there, simply because you can?

BTW my son is disabled but he doesn't qualify for a blue badge. His disabilities are hidden, and he can walk. However, I do need to be able to get to him in an emergency, doesn't happen often, thank goodness, but he would not be able to cope well if I was delayed.

I wouldn't dream of blocking someone's drive, just please don't assume that their disability isn't real

Who told you that BB holders could still park there? That’s incorrect. Just double checked with my DF a BB holder. Yes, they CAN park on double yellows but they CANT park in a way that is obstructive to others. So ie parking on double yellows fine, blocking someone into their dropped kerb, double yellowed driveway, not fine. I’ve checked our LA website and it clearly states BB holders do not have dispensation to park in front of dropped kerbs and if they do they’ll be liable to a PCN.

I think the issue here is that as you don't have a dropped kerb legally you cannot cross a pavement with your vehicle or claim that a drive is blocked

It's an offence to drive across a pavement where a dropped kerb is not installed and you can't claim legally that it is to an official parking space

That said, I wouldn't park there with my blue badge as I am considerate

I am confused about how you can legally park when you don't have a dropped kerb

From Dept of Highways :

If you intend to drive a vehicle over the footway into your driveway off a highway, then you will need a dropped kerb. If you do not have dropped kerb, you must not drive over the footway. If you do so, you are breaking the law and enforcement action could be taken to prevent such practice.

I don't think that blue badge holders are allowed to block driveways. Just get a dropped kerb.

If I'm at home I will walk into the yoga meeting and ask who owns the following car, because they are causing an obstruction on the highway.

But they wouldn’t be?

I don’t understand the problem here.

But if you don't have a dropped kerb - you don't have a legal driveway do you?
