Which paint type / brand?

I'm now at the painting stage of our whole house renovation and I'm getting really confused about which paints to use. Most, but not all, of our walls and ceilings have been replastered and we've already gone through the house white washing the walls that have been newly plastered with watered down Dulux Trade Vinyl Matt Emulsion Pure Brilliant White. We're also doing all the ceilings in this as a finish and a lot of the walls too to give us a blank canvas to start with. Our use of this particular paint is largely accidental but we're looking for a timeless matt finish and have since read is a good paint choice.

However, we're also looking at introducing some subtle colours onto the walls in a few rooms and confused as to the paint brand and type to go for. Do I stick with Dulux Trade paints or should I just go with non-trade or another brand (happy to pay a bit more for better quality / finish)? And do I go with vinyl matt in a colour (presuming this is even possible) or is another type worth looking at - and can I even put a non vinyl paint on top of a vinyl paint / whitewash? Am I better off with something more hard-wearing in the kitchen / bathroom where there's condensation, or does the vinyl element help with that?

Sorry for all the questions - any advice would be highly appreciated!

Bour decorator, who is very good, happily used Valspar everywhere and said it was good.

Put bathroom paint in the bathroom on top of the old emulsion and it's fine.

Thanks CrabappleCake. I've heard mixed things about Valspar (though I've heard mixed things about all of them!) - I wonder if the Premium version is a winner.

Hi Op Dulux is good quality paint, for bathrooms/kitchens you can use the paints formulated especially for those rooms, which have a slight sheen & are more wipeable than the Matt finish, I personally don't like the sheen & used Dulux diamond Matt finish in my kitchen & hallway.
Homebase & wilkinson own brand are cheaper than Dulux & is pretty good.
For more depth of colour & really good coverage Mylands paint is excellent, on a par with f&b price wise but much better in my opinion the colours are very subtle & the marble Matt is extremely hard wearing.
If you are using a Matt finish, I wouldn't then use a vinyl finish on another wall, as it will look odd due to the sheen of vinyl & the flat appearance of Matt paint.
Good luck with the decorating.

Johnstones is lovely - good depth of pigment, v matt finish, rated by decorators, & not too pricey.
