Bathroom/kitchen renovation in Glasgow

Ok so I've been in my house now for a year and cannot abide the bathroom any longer. It's TINY, badly designed (shower half way in front of window), with the toilet placed in tightest spot ever between said shower and wall.

The kitchen on the other side of this wall, by contrast, is huge. So I'm planning to knock down the wall between the two and steal 800mm space from the kitchen alcove to create a walk in shower leaving plenty room for loo and sink...

Unfortunately, this will mean I disrupt the kitchen (which also needs done but I could have lived with this for another year). There is currently two tall banks of units either side of an American style fridge freezer in an alcove which will essentially get pushed out further into kitchen to make space for bathroom.

I budgeted around 6k to move wall and get new bathroom and only have 4k left now to install new kitchen. Went to b&q today and they priced new kitchen at 7.5k :( this is just supply, I would need to still pay for fitting...Confused

Could anyone recommend a kitchen place in Glasgow that won't cost the earth and still be of decent quality? I'm thinking if it even comes to 5k and has some sort of interest free deal I could manage that....am I being completely unrealistic??

I'd rather have all the work done at same time as it will create so much mess. At this rate I think I'm gonna end up living with a fridge freezer randomly sitting in kitchen without any wall units until i can save enough again...also is there a best time of the year to get kitchen?

Lastly I have a quote from one architect but if anyone has dealt with and could recommend any other architects in Glasgow I would appreciate it as would feel comfortable with at least one comparison

I've just ordered a kitchen from DIY Kitchens which is due for delivery next week. I ordered on recommendations when researching on the net and found them to be almost 50% cheaper than quotes received from both high street shops like Wickes and trade suppliers like Howdens. I can't comment on the quality as not received yet but I ordered as I have only seen good reviews regarding their quality.

Good luck with your renovations! I'm having my bathroom done now before the kitchen next week Grin

I ordered my kitchen from these guys 5 years ago. The girl that designed the kitchen was great & made the best use of space & had good ideas. My kitchen is 3.4x3m & the units & worktops cost around £4000 without the appliances. The kitchen fitter had a flat fee of £950 & he fitted the kitchen in 3 days. Quality wise I don't really know one kitchen from another but I was renovating the house when it was fitted & the builder, plumber & electrician all said the kitchen was good quality & were surprised I paid so little for it. I bought mine from the hillington showroom but they have more shops now.

Thanks Lesley,
I am awaiting a quote from these guys! The guy was really friendly but I have since read bad reviews of them online which made me nervous...if you've had no issues in 5 years then I'm guessing quality is fine!

My mum bought her kitchen from them in 2006/07 & since then my brother & his mother in law have also bought kitchens from them. My brother had an issue with the delivery of a cupboard- missing maybe or sent the wrong one??- & they gave him A discount on the cupboard. The cupboard was delivered in a couple of days so not a big problem really as the fitter could still fit the rest of the kitchen.

We did look at other companies but these guys were cheaper to buy & fit, did the best design & they offered mid height cupboards which others didn't offer at the time. I changed my kitchen from white to oak & my work tops from wood to black & then grey & it wasn't a problem. The fitter worked alone & didn't even stop for lunch. I kept his number for a long time & recommended him too.

I've only had two kitchens in my life so I'm no expert but I found them really easy to deal with. Only thing I would say is we negotiated the price & got money off the original price.
