Our tap is dripping and is driving me crazy! Am going to try and repair it myself but am struggling to figure out what kind of washer I should use and I'm a bit nervous of taking it apart until I have a plan of action. Suspect I need a ceramic cartridge as the taps are quarter turn Ones. Unfortunately I don't know what brand our tap is or how to get the right type of cartridge. Can someone help? Have attached pic of tap😃 Sorry I'm terrible at DIY but am desperate to sort this out x

We had the same problem when we moved in to our house. We got a plumber in who said there were so many different types that we'd be better off getting a new tap. We got one from Screwfix.Probably not the world's best tap but it doesn't drip.

it looks like you have a tap with ceramic cartridges in it.

If it's from a major maker you can probably get replacement cartridges

If it's a fashionable import they may be grotesquely expensive.

It's usual to turn off the water, take one of them out, measure it and count the splines, see if a replacement is available. May be easier if you know the brand. DIY sheds have a small selection. Lunns have a vast selection

I have a very similar problem with a very similar tap... we will get it fixed eventually (or replace the kitchen?)... but find that pulling the knob forward a tiny amount makes the dripping almost stop.

Try putting a sponge or folded jaycloth under the tap. That way you can't hear it dripping, and can fix it at your leisure (six years and counting here).

I assume you aren't on a water meter then Grief.

As it happens, no (water rates based on the ratable value,

Water company hate it. But advantageous for us). But if you want to save the water, place the cloth in a bowl, and reuse.
