Magnetic secondary glazing

We have moved into an old thatched cottage and it's very cold with only single glazed windows. We were wondering whether putting magnetic secondary glazing (e.g. Magneglaze) is worth the cost and if anyone has found it has helped with heat retention? Also any recommendations on online companies to go for?

We used Magneglaze on our previous home (G2 listed). Our windows were fairly drafty so it wasnt only a single glazing problem. Anyway, they were brilliant and happy to recommend them.

We've got magneglaze and will be putting more in. A couple of thoughts:

  1. I'm not convinced it makes a big difference to heat retention, but it certainly stops the draughts.
  2. On very large windows, there is some 'flex' in the plastic glazing. We have a bay ~ 1.6m high and the glazing panel does 'suck in' and 'bow out' when there is a strong wind which makes an accompanying noise.

We used this for a stop gap measure (until we could afford to replace all the massive bay windows in our house properly). It was very effective actually - just need to make sure its fitted REALLY well otherwise you'll get gaps then condensation will form between the window and secondary glazing. It looks neat, is easy to remove to open the windows when required. I'd recommend it.

Weve used it as well to good effect. If i could afford to i would get good secondary dg - ive seen grade II listed houses with good quality secondary glazing and it looks good and can work better than putting double glazed panes in the windows.

Storm Windows www.stormwindows.co.uk/ is the 'genuine' article, but very expensive.

Oh we have secondary glazing in 90% of the house and it's great but for some inexplicable reason the previous owners decided to leave two windows out and we can't afford to get them done yet. This looks like a great solution! How effective is it for sound insulation?

Looks good and cheap... worth a try for small.windows with massive gaps all round in flat I rent...

@Sunnyshores - can you give any idea of cost? Looks like just what we could do with.
