Selling a house with damp...

Is this possible? We have random damp patches in our house that need sorting but I suspect it's a messy job which I REALLY don't want to have to do. Are people likely to buy a house with known damp issues (at the right price obviously!) to sort themselves?

House is in a highly desirable area and decorated nicely (fairly neutrally) so this is the only issue really.

We sold our first house which had damp that needed sorting. I was totally upfront and the woman who bought was in rented and had the work done before moving in. It can help if you know what the problem is and what needs doing and how much cost/disruption is involved.

Get quotes for the work, preferably sort yourself (may not be messy, may be due to gutters or something simple), if not at least you know how much of a reduction you should accept.

We are negotiating to buy a house with damp. They are replastering themselves and we are wanting to see evidence of the work before we proceed. But it won't stop us wanting the house. In our case it was just an elderly owner who hadn't performed any.upkeep in a decade. Nothing major. If it's not rising damp then I don't think it will stop anyone if they want the house, but you're more likely to attract families and not builders if the work is already done.

We but a house with damp, but it was reflected in the price, also. Whilst it was expensively decorated that was irrelevant as had to come down.

I just sold a flat with a serious damp problem. It would have been obvious in any survey but I asked the agents to flag at viewings. I was aware of how much it would cost to fix and so when the purchasers tried to chip their offer, I was confident in my compromise on price. Sale was agreed and everyone seemed happy!
