Kitchen ceiling lights!

We currently have a very battered strip of 4 halogen pointy spot lights which is knackered now and needs replacing. DH would rather have I light (1 bulb to replace!) but I don't want a 1970s strip light and can't think of another single light that would give off enough light? We do have under cupboard strip lights anyway.

Can I ask for any recommendations for kitchen ceiling lights? If we went for those set in the ceiling single circle spot light dot things (what are they called??) -would the whole ceiling have to come down to fit them??

We have led downlights in one part of our kitchen - the ceiling doesn't have to come down but access from above for fitting and fitting makes things easier. Make sure they are fire rated. They come as a sealed complete unit. In the other part we have led track lighting. It's a neat track and the individual lights slide on to it and are angled as you want them. I got those from an electrical wholesaler with an eBay shop.

We've got those. We have a plasterboard ceiling and they didn't take it down to fit the lights. I wasn't actually there when they were fitted, so I don't know the exact process, but they definitely didn't access anything from above.

I really like them actually; they've made the whole atmosphere of our kitchen feel nicer.

It's not necessary to have access from above to fit recessed lights, but it does make it easier for wiring.

We have two strips of four adjustable led lights with glass shades, set to give good light with no shadows. John lewis or Argos. No silly holes in the ceiling. One connection each. Bulbs last ages. Total consumption under 30w.

That sounds interesting, special-do you have a photo:link so I can see what you mean?

I'm not a big fan of recessed lights, but for our kitchen they work well as we have a high ceiling and don't get greased up like the B&Q track light with glass shades do. The modern ones are a sealed unit and you don't get gaps and draughts.

I meant like the B&Q lights we used to have did! Wish you could edit on here.
