DH is thinking of taking a job in Macclesfield, any local views out there on what it would be like to live in the town? Thanks xxx

You should also ask on the local Cheshire page.

It's a good part of the world to be in. Just be aware that housing isn't necessarily as cheap as you might think. Parts of the area are expensive, SE levels. Of course there are cheaper parts but know upfront that prices are not uniformly 'low'.

I lived there for years and went to school there. It was ok but it's very insular and there seem to be a lot of social climbers. Left at 18 and not been back in twenty years! But it's handy for Manchester and the main train line to London. And lots of nice countryside nearby. Try the Peak District in Staffordshire maybe? It's still commutable from there and much nicer.

It's a nice town. But Bollington on the outskirts is lovlier... Bit Cheshire set though!

I work in Macc but live near New Mills in Derbyshire. Commute is hassle free 25 mins. There are some very expensive places around Macc, e.g. Prestbury, but the suburbs of the town are less so. I don't think the town has a great deal to offer really - it's not what it was twenty years ago. Bollington is lovely, Rainow a bit more rural. Poynton would be an easy run to Macc and has train station and proximity to A6 and airport, etc.

I suspect your DH may be considering a job with the company I work for!

Meant to say it is a fantastic area - Peak District and moorlands close by. Manchester near enough for a it has to offer. Trains pretty good.

I used to work in Macclesfield.

School wise Fallibroome is the one they all fight for (Prestbury catchment) but Tytherinton is good too.
Bollington is a nice area.

I grew up there and have fond memories of it. Great for kids as plenty of countryside around in the peak District and Staffordshire Moorlands, good state schools, not far from Manchester and all its delights! Also safe and very little in the way of crime and antisocial behaviour etc. They are doing some modernization to the town centre at the moment and building more shops etc. Macclesfield is very friendly and not Cheshire set at all although surrounding towns and villages such as Alderley Edge, Prestbury and Wilmslow are.

I agree that Bollington is a very nice village. House prices are more than the national average but you would certainly get more value for money than some of the posher Manchester suburbs.

The main trainline from Manchester to London Euston stops at Macclesfield should you ever wish to leave!

It's a good town. Some excellent schools, St Albans primary and falibroome secondary are both ofsted outstanding (and I'm sure there are others but they're the ones I know).

Seems to be lots of decent nurseries and when I previously enquired a number had vacancies.

Excellent train links to London, Manchester, Birmingham. Drive into Manchester also easily. Much cheaper than surrounding areas (prestbury, Alderney edge etc), although not cheap. Town centre isn't amazing but amenities are quite good - Sainsbury's and Tesco, Waitrose in nearby wilmslow, huge M&S and John Lewis 15 mins away.

The area up from the hospital (off Victoria road) is nice with lots of detached family homes.

Surrounded by lots of lovely countryside, beautiful walking and lots of country pubs.
