Hi has anyone installed a kitchen sink with glass surround in their kitchen, what are your views and how has it been in use? Thanks

Do you mean this sort, with a steel sink and glass drainer?
I can't remember where as it was a few years ago, but I am sure I once read that someone installed one of these and chipped it very soon afterwards. This possibility would put me off, but perhaps if you have a dishwasher and your sink will not have heavy use it might be fine, else they wouldn't sell them.

Thanks Frogfairy its similar, stainless steel inside and a glass surround and drainer, i may rethink if they chip easily.

Do you live in a hard water area? Water is like chalk here so anything shiny is covered In lime scale within minutes.

I think the chinking of everything on the glass surround might drive you crackers.

Orangebird69 · 14/09/2017 11:43

I wouldn't. It'll show water/limescale males unless you live in a very soft water area. And I have an irrational hate for any glass surfaces anyway - coffee/garden tables, chopping boards (why, just why???) etc. The clattery sound drives me bonkers.

Males??? Marks!

Think I will stick with stainless steel. Good points, thanks to all of you. I didnt think about hardwater or the sound.

Hi
The thing about glass is its super hygienic and easy to clean and always looks fantastic. However, its made from safety glass and therefore the surface (if Black) will show tiny surface scratches really easily. Just the same as stainless steel does! The other issue to think about is the design is very slim and therefore the draining capacity is not that great. In other words, if you drain a lot of pots, you will find water finding its way onto the worktop.

Don't listen to the killjoys about the black glass sinks, if someone says they had a chipped one then they bought a cheap and nasty one as the proper ones are toughened and are extremely hard to damage and come with a proper guarantee. I've got one and swear by it, it's tough, it's hygenic and it looks stunning!!!
