Sliding or French?

Doors of course!
Apologies for the boring nature of this post.
We are about to get replacement doors and windows. I had assumed we would replace like for like but the person who came to measure mentioned we could switch sliding doors for French doors.
Has anyone lived with both? Preferences?
I'm thinking sliding is better as they don't have to be secured when opened and can be left open just a little.

Neither, if the space is big enough bi-fold. Just had one it's lovely

Sliding

I thought they were only for the type of properties where a whole side of the room is a door. If that makes any sense.
We have two sliding doors. Not in the same rooms though.
What's the benefit of bifold? I'm clueless!!

sliding. Less frame so more view when closed. Also no need to secure. no banging about. can open as much or as little as you like.

Where we had sliding patio doors previously we now have one door opening out that has the option of being held open or soft close and on the other side half is a window that opens outwards. On the outside we have put up a Perspex shelter so that when the door/window is open and it rains it doesn't come in so you can have a choice of fresh air/animal entrance/exit. This is the best choice we have had. We also have a set of French doors but I wouldn't consider them where the above opening is.

It totally depends on the age and style of the house. Some look dreadful with sliding doors because French windows are perfect for the style of house, e.g. 1930s. Modern houses can be fine with sliding and bifold if they are really modern and you wish to open up a big space. They seem to work well in modern extensions. I would look at your style of house on a web site like Houzz (or similar) and see what other stylish houses look like that have similarities with yours. Go from there.

I have sliding in my modern seaside house but three sets of French doors at home.

80s house.
Not opening up a big space.
Also think daft dog might run into anything protruding into the garden or house. Hmm
