UPVC sash windows

We're looking at replacing the totally knackered UPVC windows on our Victorian terrace with UPVC sash (traditional wooden sash is sadly entirely out of our budget). We're not in a conservation area, so there's no constraints on us.

We've had a quote for the Charisma Rose line of windows that has come in at £4.5k for 5 windows (two first floor; one 3 panel ground floor bay), which seems a lot of money. We're in London though, so labour will be expensive.

Does anyone have Charisma Rose windows - or indeed any other model of UPVC sash? Would you recommend them? They certainly look so much nicer and more in keeping with the house than standard UPVC, but as we don't have to install them, is it really worth the extra ££££?

Thanks in advance!

That sounds a lot to me. I one got a quote from Interhouse Windows (I think that's what they're called?) for timber sashes and it was cheaper then your UPVC quote (in London too).

Our uPVC sash windows were done by the previous owners 8-10 years ago and were £1500-2000 each with Anglian. We are in the southwest. I do love them, they tilt in for cleaning and run beautifully smoothly.

We had 4 UPVC sashes done and it costs less than 2.5k. We bought them ourselves and local builder charged us £500 to fit them - the rest of the cost was our windows.

It was much cheaper to do it this way than using even a local window company.

Thanks all, this is very helpful. We were going to get a couple of quotes (in fact, I've been ignoring the incessant follow-up calls from Anglian), but will definitely shop around now. Hadn't come across Interhouse before, but will seek them out - if we can get timber for same price I would be tempted!

Just remember timber will require painting every few years so factor that into the cost. Mine from Everest over ten years ago were £11k but never had a problem and they still look fantastic.
