Has mosiac/metro tiling had its day?

I had gone off the idea of mosaic, but have seen a larger style glass blue/purple one that I love and thought of mixing it with white metro. I'll be having a shelved recessed bit at the end of the bath and thought I could put the mosaic in there and above the sink. But I'll likely be selling in a couple it years, so I'm worried that it might look dated by then? I feel like mosaic has been around for ever, so must be due to go out of style.

I really want some colour in the room though! So at the moment, it's this or pale coloured brick/metro. I'm constantly swaying between ideas. I know I'll love what I choose, and I wouldn't choose anything too crazy, but don't want to have to neutralise when it comes to selling.

Help me Confused

I don't think either have had their day, but maybe slightly less common

Go for it 👍

Mosaics are completely classic and have been used for centuries. The only ones that could date/not be to everyone's taste are those that have several materials on them (crazy mixtures of glass, ceramic, metal etc).

Metro tiles have had a massive heyday over the last few years but I think they are pretty classic too if you keep it fairly normal (so not, say, white metro + black grout for industrial look that will date pretty soon).

If you're very worried about your choices, then things that will definitely be very slow to date and classic white tiles or natural stone. You could then add colour with pictures and accessories or even paint. If the property is quite modern, then large porcelain tiles can give quite a timeless modern look.

Go for what you want and ENJOY it - dont worry about trying to anticipate the tastes of some anonymous random person years down the line......sounds lovely - hope it brings you joy twice a day!

Agree with another - anodyne second-guessed stuff dates very badly...
If you go with what you love it will have more zing

Okay, that puts my mind at rest. I shall start tile shopping today, in earnest!
