Hello everyone, so we are thinking of moving to Milton Keynes from London to find a better "affordable" house
We've a 5 year old who's in Year 1 now, so I'm looking for areas with better primary schools and also not so far from the train station as my husband will be commuting daily to central London.

Also I've heard alot about those areas that are not very safe or nice to live in, we live in a really nice neighborhood in London and I wish to find a nice place as well in Milton Keynes .. it's so hard for us to look for houses without knowing what are the preferred/family friendly areas to live.

Could you help, as all the online threads are pretty old and I can't find much help of them.
Thanks alot in advance

When I moved to MK, I was told that a good rule of thumb was that the more deprived areas had the most straight roads. It sort of works.

Most people send their DC to their local primary school, and most primary schools are ok afaik. obviously those schools in more deprived areas have more deprived intakes! Your issue will be finding a school with a place in Y1 as schools are full to bursting in many areas.

It does seem to be that young families generally move into the newer areas, whilst the older areas have older children (as they moved in when their DC were young and they grew up!), but most of the newer areas are not so close to the station . That said, MK is a good place to cycle round if your husband doesn't mind cycling? The areas that are walking distance to t he station e.g. Loughton tend to be more expensive.

As a general rule of thumb, the most central estates are the oldest and not the nicest. But there are loads of really nice areas with great school and lovely environments and community spirit. Maybe start looking at Tattenhoe, shenley brook end, Middleton which are all good for primary and secondary schools plus are nice places. And to be honest you can reach the centre of mk where the station is within a short drive from anywhere in mk so I don't think it matters where you choose from a commuting point of view
