Well, what is it your kitchen installation that's nightmarish? Are you doing it yourself and struggling, or are you having other people doing it and they're messing you around?

Or are you just at the end of your tether because even a smooth-running installation inevitably causes a lot of mess and chaos?

We just had ours done, including full re-plastering, loads of electrical work and plumbing, tiling etc. There were no major issues but my god, the dust/damp/noise/lack of kitchen facilities certainly did get me down.

Yes ours is carrying on, we are still cooking on a camping stove since March ish and there is now at last a sink in the utility room we can use for washing up! The units have been in since April but still no worktops (the old ones are balanced on the new units)
But things are moving slowly, good luck with yours!

Shock Ours has taken three and a half weeks and I've been moaning about that so, it appears that I need to get some perspective and woman up!

I've never had a kitchen done before, so I don't really know what's the norm in terms of the time it takes etc.

Hope it all progresses quickly from this point onwards.

I think I have been spoilt. Large L shape kitchen being split into utility room and then medium kitchen. The builders moved in on day 1 and demolished the old kitchen and then on day two put the stud wall up.
Day four left me with the utility room space with reused old cupboards, sink with running drinking water and a working washing machine.
i bought a two ring burner from amazon for £20 and already had a combination microwave so doing well.
Building work due to finish On 15th September and then kitchen arrives 2nd October from a local well respected independent supplier.
Whilst a bit of a pain, I do think I have fared very well so far especially compared to some horror stories I hear.

My kitchen work starts in October. So think I need to hide this thread Grin

Ours was delayed by 10 days because the plaster fell off all the walls when they took the old units out... I went in every night and took pictures of progress, which was variable on a day to day basis as the run over had obviously messed the timing for all their other jobs up...

Near the end I went over everything with a fine tooth comb and agreed with the lead tradesman a list of all the jobs that needed finishing before I would be happy with the work and had them tick them off as they were done.

On the last day I had to tell them I wasn't paying the full balance until they'd finished the work to get them to stay at my house (instead of going to another job) and finish what they'd started so we had time to clear up before we went on holiday...

We are three weeks in. Started with a smallish extension into the former utility room and new French doors. Kitchen units arriving in another three weeks and then however long the installation takes (different team). Its been surprisingly pain free so far. To the extent we're thinking of bringing forward having the patio done now instead of next summer.

johnd2 · 08/09/2017 10:15

PollyFlint ours is only slow because we've not decided on the worktop yet which needs deciding the sink, hob, etc. We're doing all the fit out ourselves and also had issues with the floor we had to solve, so that starts to explain why it's all so slow!

YorkshireTea86 · 08/09/2017 10:28

Ours is getting ripped out in 3 weeks. Fitter has just been and reckons about 10 days. But that doesn't include the time dh is doing the electrics which is the week before they start.
