Boiler installation

Right now having new boiler installed by British Gas. I know!! He's taken old one off and wall behind is in bad state. What to do? Can have board put over it and then boiler installed. Or have wall plastered and wait until Monday for British Gas to come back to fit boiler? Then I'll be without hot water all weekend. WWYD?

At moment boiler fitter is waiting for a builder to arrive to do either of two choices. Fitter prefers board solution (obviously) but I'm torn.

I'd just get the board, but if you want to get it plastered that's fine, what's one weekend without hot water compared with having something you dislike for the next 10 years? Just boil water for the dishes and shower at the local swimming pool or just go camping ;)

Get the plasterboard put on the wall.

Thanks for responses. They decided to board it in the end. I asked about using plasterboard but they said it was alright they are using marine plywood!

I'm not happy as after sorting out the wall everything afterwards felt a bit rushed. The installer was saying that he wished they didn't book jobs on a Friday as he has to make sure everthing is done on the day as he won't be able to come back again until the Monday.

BG don't routinely do a poweflush on new boiler installations only system cleanse with chemicals. I wouldn't know if it was done or not but the box on form has been ticked by a BG installer so must believe it was.

The thing though is that I had a magna filter costing me over £200 put on the old boiler at insistence of BG otherwise I may not have been covered under the Homecare agreement for particular boiler problems.

I just assumed that it would be kept and attached to new boiler. Only realised yesterday after installer left that it has been taken away. Reading the manual it recommends fitting one and I believe the fitter should have reused it or told me why not.

Oh and not to forget the white plastic condensate pipe that I thought was just a bit dirty and would clean off. No. Dirt marks are scratched into the plastic and I can't get them out.

Then there is the free Boiler and central heating Homecare for a year.

Homecare entitles you to a yearly service and call outs for breakdowns.

Just been told by BG customer services that they serviced the boiler when it was installed. Excuse me but i don't consider a boiler being installed as being, or needing to be, "serviced". I expected it to be serviced in the middle of or towards the end of its first year. I think BG are being very disingenuous.

I'm beginning to think that I should have listened to others on this site and got new boiler from someplace else other than BG.

A new boiler is commissioned, not serviced. This involves running a series of checks. It's the law to do this. The first service should be 12 months after installation.

Thanks Alexander. I will use that information when BG get back to me next week about my queries.
