I keep reading of people saying they had a post build clean but I can't find anyone that does it - can anyone recommend any companies?

I need to rid my dust....

We had our post-build clean today but I got the company on recommendation from a friend. Perhaps you could ask on your local FB group or phone a local lettings agent and ask if they could recommend anyone?

Hmmm did that and no response. I'm in London so didn't think it would be hard!

I actually got 2 quotes yesterday from www.fantasticservices.com/after-builders-cleaning/ and from www.fastklean.co.uk/.

Went for fastclean in the end as fantastic services had a minimum number of hours required and it worked out quite expensive. My house hasn't got many personal effects in at the moment so easy to clean and I didn't think i needed something like 12 or 16 hours! Haven't had the cleaners in yet so can not report back. Good luck.

lock away your household vac. Builders dust will ruin it. Buy a canister vac (with some paper bags as well as the canister filter) and use it for at least a month while you remove the builders dust from everything, including lampshades, architrave, walls, tops of doors, cracks between floorboards, under the bath, curtains, windowframes... it gets everywhere.

Don't buy a canister vac if you can't buy a spare canister filter and paper bags (they are the size of pillowcases)

This one is I think good value and has a long guarantee (collect it from your local branch). It will be useful later for DIY, car cleaning, and in the garage, even sucking up water out of blocked drains and after sink overflows (the canister filter is waterproof). It sucks up gravel, grit, nails, and small pieces of broken brick and concrete. You can brush the filter clean.

Thanks both, very helpful!

That's a great tip PigletJohn, and not something I'd thought of doing.

We've recently moved back into our house post build. I agree that the dust will kill your vacuum.. We have carried on using our normal one, but we have to change the filters every couple of days or the motor overheats.

The dust just seems to get everywhere. I don't know, but suspect even a post build professional clean wouldn't get rid of it all.

Don't use Fantastic Cleaning Services. Far from bloody fantastic as can be. They did my military march out clean. Shampooed the carpets without hoovering up the dog fluff, left dust everywhere, refused to take the oven door apart to clean it and left the roof of the oven filthy. My husband was deployed, I had a 1year old and was recovering from an operation. I paid £400 to have the stress of cleaning taken away after moving house on my own and ended up spending 2 days cleaning the house. It was utterly horrendous

A good local letting agent or an inventory clerk will know who will do a prof clean or a deep clean.

Plenty in London, though not many who are reliable or good!

NamedyChangedy · 07/09/2017 23:33

Might be too late but please don't use Fantastic anything. I've used them for end of tenancy / moving in cleaning a few times over the years and the last two were terrible experiences - they didn't come close to doing what we paid them for. Never again.

ikeadyounot · 08/09/2017 10:35

Can I ask how much a post-build clean by a decent company costs, please, just for a rough idea? (I'm in a 3 bed semi).

Sarahsea1 · 08/09/2017 16:39

Another one to say avoid Fantastic Cleaning services - I had a laughably bad cleaning experience for a pre-tenancy clean. There are loads of cleaning firms in London who offer builders' clean but mostly it's pot luck as it depends upon who they sub out the work to. ikeadyounot - probably around £100 depending on how bad it is - e.g. plaster off window panes or just a good clean - it's usually around £16/hr with a min of five hours. Perfect Clean used to be OK, not sure what they're like now, though.

Shouldnotwouldnot · 08/09/2017 17:11

Well I actually have fantastic cleaners booked in as they were the only ones I could find that anyone else had heard of. Only others were just random companies that could be anyone. Will let you know how it goes......

Shouldnotwouldnot · 10/09/2017 15:17

Just to update they came out and were pretty good. Brought proper post build cleaning tools and did what they were meant to do in the right time!
