Moving house: do you port your existing energy supplier or do you use the vendor's supplier?

Sorry if this is a daft question but I have no clue.
When you move house is it simpler to carry on with your existing supplier (from your old house) or to continue with the supplier that your vendors have used? On the one hand I would assume that the vendors would be with a supplier whose tarif suits the size and needs of the house. But what if you have a tie in with your current supplier? Thank you wise movers.

If you move you are not bound to stay with your old supplier at the new place. Find out who the supplier is and go on the standard variable tariff or an exit fee free tariff until you have chance to work out what is going to be best for you. You can change supplier if you choose to.

in a (luckily quite few) cases, the developer has cut a profitable deal with one of the smaller utility companies to install gas and/or electricity, on a contract that forces the housebuyer to buy from that supplier.

You can guess that this deal has been cooked up for the benefit of the developer and the supplier. Not the future homeowner. They are unlikely to mention such a scheme until you are quite a way into the buying process.

Thanks both.
Wow that sounds like a good plan. I'd rather take the easiest option for the time being and then sort out the tariff once we've settled in (whenever that might be!)
Piglet we're not moving into a new build but that doesn't surprise me, unfortunately.
