Open plan adpations/ taking down walls and new kitchen etc

I'm getting married in Dec and we are planning to make my house more our home :)

Now at the mo its a standard living room, kitchen etc (we have a 2nd sitting room) and we are thinking of taking the wall down between kitchen and living room.

Those of you with open plan do you have the same floor all the way? would it look weird having wood in the lounge and then keeping the only 2 year old tile effect vinyl in the kitchen?

I'd love some advice and pics.

We are also considering replacing the kitchen but I think that might be out of budget, the kitchen is OK but 14 years old now so a refresh would be nice. Any recommendations for cheaper kitchens?

Thanks!

We extended our kitchen some years ago - it's pretty big with one glazed wall that folds completely back onto decking in good weather (today!). We have a dining area, kitchen obviously and a soft seating area with a big screen. The kitchen area has Amtico and the rest of the room is ceramic tiles. We may as well rent out the rest of the downstairs, as no-one ever uses any other room! Grin

We've just done this: same floor throughout the entire downstairs! Kitchen and flooring from Howdens. I'll stick pics up when it's been painted!

Thanks TokoReturns, was the flooring from Howdens expensive? Is it wood? I have concerns about wood & appliances

It was actually free - they threw it in with the kitchen! I then decided I wanted it throughout so paid for the extra, but it was pretty cheap still.

It's not wood it's perhaps Amtico or similar (wood effect).

We've got open plan kitchen/diner/living room. All same flooring we went for tiles and I'll be doing the same again when we finally get our new house, I hate ugly joins and imo it doesn't look right in open plan.

We have completely open plan downstairs and same flooring (Karndean Van Gogh) throughout so no joins anywhere. We used to have split ceramic tiles and laminate but I hated the joins this flows much better.
