I hate my house

Im pregnant so it might just be hormones but i hate my house. Its a 3 bed terrace in an ok area. My dh cant get a mortgage so its on my name and he pays the mortgage. We had our sights set on bigger better houses but obvs because only my wage was taken into account we got this house. Weve spent alot on it and i still don't like it. Am i being spoilt and hormonal im guessing yes

What don't you like about it?

BalticUnicorn · 28/08/2017 12:45

It faces the side of another house and their paint is all chipped off so i have to look at that
It has no garden
I need to get the floorboards re conditioned to make them smarter

I just dont like it lol

It might be hormones. We have a bath panel leaning up against the bathroom wall which we've never managed to fit, bought when I had an absolute pregnant lady meltdown over the (admittedly horrible) existing bath panel Blush. It was all down to hormones!

Don't make any flooring decisions, that's my advice Blush

See it as a stepping stone. Why can't your husband get a mortgage? Focus on fixing that and by the time that is sorted you'll have more equity in the house and with the double lending power be able to upgrade.

His ex wife screwed him over basically thats why. Apparently he can get a mortgage in another 3 years or so

It's not forever and, as PP said, at least you're on the ladder.

Is your DH fully engaged with sorting his credit record out? Or is the problem something else?

SerfTerf · 28/08/2017 12:54

X post. 3 years isn't so long.

chocoshopoholic · 28/08/2017 12:58

What about a small window box of either something bright (flowers aren't my strong point) or herbs.

Will give a small feeling of greenery / slightly hide the ugly house without being a major lasting decision in case it's just hormones.

BalticUnicorn · 28/08/2017 13:39

Thanks everyone I shouldn't be ungrateful we have a small mortgage and the house is ok really

I'm pregnant and also hate my house (that I normally love with all my heart).

I also have an urge to paint everything pink or soft pastel colours and buy loads of sheepskin things.

So, am hoping it's just hormones tbh.

If you really can't move, can you do anything improve the bits you hate?

For example, the ugly house you overlook - can you put up trellis and grow some pretty climbing roses?

Floorboards can be fixed - especially as you know what you want to do.

Hang in there Flowers

Nesting instinct IS a form of madness.

Could you go to IKEA with a set budget (ie cash but no cards) and buy some plants, baskets, a couple of rugs, throws and cushions and maybe a picture to change your decor a little without spending a huge amount of money?

My sympathies: I have been living in a fixer-upper for four years and work is going very slowly as DH insists on doing almost all of it himself despite having a very demanding job. We moved into a place that was basically only fit for demolition and the first year was pretty terrible. I really hated the house and missed my little cosy upstairs flat (that was completely impractical with two children, let's be honest).

Once I had my kitchen installed and had bought some lovely things from the white company to make the place look homely, I warmed to it!
