Help! Our downstairs lights aren't working at all!

In the past, if this happened, we took out our ancient fuse thing from the fuse board and replaced the fuse wire and put it back. But we had a new Fuse Board or whatever they are called installed over a year ago and have no idea how to check where the problem is. It was definitely all working last night, and I think this morning.

Any ideas? It's just 2 ceiling lights in the sitting room and one in the hall. The kitchen lights are fine Confused
TIA

Has your 'Fuse Board' got on/off switches? If so, have a look and see if any of them are in the off position and turn them on. Probably, you had a lightbulb blow.

photo of your consumer unit ("fusebox") please with the flap open.

What sort of bulbs do you have on this circuit?

Thanks! DH flicked a switch that seemed to have tripped and hey presto, they are back on!

The bulbs are those long life ones. I think one of them in the sitting room light must have gone?

that's good.

I was going to say that the old-fashioned bulbs with filaments, especially spotlights but also the less common varieties such as chandeliers, are prone to tripping breakers as there is a momentary overload when the filament vapourises.

Energy-saving and LED lamps are much less likely to do that.
