I don't even know where to begin...Our house is full of downlights everywhere that the previous owners filled with too high a wattage halogen bulbs, meaning that the fittings in some places are warped and are taking the ceiling out with them. Basically the ideal would be to get rid of them in the two bathrooms and replace with a single good old fashioned light fitting and replaster the ceiling...
So, my question is - do I need a plasterer and electrician? Who first? Any idea of costs involved etc? Thanks.

I think you need the electrician first as he/she would need to potentially make new holes in your ceiling to thread the cables for the new light. Then your plasterer can fill in the holes of the old lights and any new ones made by the electrician.

You will then have a new and lovely, mark free ceiling.

Best of luck.

Personally I think you need to reboard the ceiling. Also you just can't put any light on the bathroom. Regulations say you need an IP44 in a zone 2 ( Look this up ) The bathroom has to be wired up by an electrician because it's classed as a special location.
