We're finalising our kitchen plans. I think we're pretty much there though I have a couple of minor changes and wanted the MNers opinions to spot any obvious mistakes! It's Howdens. The bit next to the breakfast bar is a built in cupboard. We'll also have a utility. The appliances are all built in.

Why don't you get rid of the built in cupboard?

Do you have any independent kitchen suppliers on your local high street? Might be worth popping in to them for a quote and ideas.

Could you not do the ovens one on top of the other to not have the fridge freezer next to them? Have them to one side then a cupboard space then fridge freezer maybe

I think the last one looks nice and I'm sure something can be sorted for the awkward corner. I had a garage door whe I ha a kitchen with an awkward corner. I kept my food processor in it. It was a little bit like this photo but with only one garage door and not half as fancy.

There isn't a breakfast bar though. 🤔

Good luck with Howdens .

Do try Benchmarx as well. I'm super happy with my kitchen.
My thought is that the sink is a long way from the hob and oven.

That's a really difficult room with 3 doors. What is the door at the top of the picture?

I think the distance between sink and hob is a really tricky one. Could you put a small prep sink say under the microwave? I can see plumbing/waste might be a challenge but it could be worth it. Have a small bin under it. Then the "hob" end of the room could be a real work centre. I would put the hob just slightly further to the right so you have your "spreading out space" on the straight run to the corner, at least 1.2m wide. If you take out the breakfast bar then there will be more space around the back of the person cooking for people going into the dining room.

The "sink" end of the room can then have all your crockery and cutlery storage, tea/coffee making, toast and jam, so doesn't clutter up the cooking space. I would also move the dishwasher as far as it can go under the draining board and lose the unit next to it. Change that for a curved end unit if you can and that will ease access to the utility especially when DW door is open.

Can't your built in cupboard be fitted out as a larder and then you can maybe lose the high larder unit and get a bit more worktop?

Could you move the door (to the hall?) at the top of the pictures to the right so it's almost opposite the dining room door? If you did you would have a big enough run from the window end of the room to put hob and ovens there and a bank of tall units opposite the window. I'd be tempted to get rid of the built in cupboard and even up the other wall too.

OP. Will you update on what you decide to do. I'm over invested interested what you decide. 😊

grasspigeons · 23/08/2017 15:51

I'm in agreement that the hob and sink need to be close together.

SnickersWasAHorse · 23/08/2017 16:54

I prefer your ikea plan.
Having to walk across the kitchen with a pan of pasta etc to drain worries me.

Fourmagpies · 23/08/2017 20:08

I will Its.

Even now we have to walk across the kitchen with a pan of hot water, I'm always telling someone to get out of the way or trying to avoid the pile of stuff we currently have in the kitchen as we're mid building project. My DSs are 7 and 10 so not usually underfoot. I don't think there is a way around it, we can't move doors and I don't want to take out the cupboard.
