Getting rid of bath

Has anyone done this and fitted a large shower area/wet room instead? We live in a 4 bed with a tiny family bathroom - literally room for a normal sized bath, sink and toilet. Shower currently over bath.
We are going to redo the entire bathroom and can't decide if we'd regret losing the bath for an awesome shower area instead. We have three young dc who use the bath but that's it really. We won't be selling for a long long time so needs to work for us with teenagers etc
Any opinions/experiences?

Nooooo I love my bath !!!

OK, so the question is, will a 10, 9, and 6 yr old still be having regular baths?
Then, will a 15,14, and 11 yr old still be wanting baths ?

In my house - definitely yes to the 5 yr plan - all mine were having baths for their main, regular washing at those ages.
In my house - yes to the 10 yr plan too. Mine are now 21, 18, and 15, and all choose a shower for a quick wash, but the oldest and youngest will have a bath about once a week, each. Middle one doesn't.

I like to read in a 1 - 2 hour bath, so when we were moving we didn't even look at houses with no bath.

My DD is 10 and really likes a bath. Difficult to get her in a shower as she has sensory issues that mean she doesn't like having water on her head.

I'd never give up my bath but I don't think my dss would either. They play a lot of football and rugby and there's nothing better after a hard game than a hot bath.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 20/08/2017 17:52

I asked all mine before deciding.

DD1 - much prefers a shower. Will languish in one.

DD2 - will have a bath occasionally, but prefers a shower.
Me - gets really bored in a bath and would prefer a shower.
DH - struggles to manage to shower in the bath and can't physically get in and out of the bath with his missing leg, so a shower will do him a favour.

I love those bucket baths - will show a friend of mine as she's always had the huge shower enclosures, but now has a baby so might want the feature of a shower.

We've got a short bath with a shower over it and I couldn't be without the bath now. I wasn't bothered in our old house with its normal bath but our current bath is a good 20 deeper than normal baths and it's heaven!

ihatetosay · 20/08/2017 18:26

i did it and do not have any regrets

We're getting rid of one of our baths in a couple of weeks, long narrow en suite with the bath across the far end, and sunken, will have a big shower instead. We'll still have a bath, though it won't get much use it's nice to have the option, and one day ought to be good for resale. That said, given one bathroom in a four bed house will put people off anyway, you may as well have what suits you best.

The guy who runs the company doing the work did say they don't do much in the way of wet rooms these days, they're falling out of favour. Plus the ones they've been back to that they installed ten years ago haven't aged that well - I'm guessing that's a general thing, not their poor workmanship, wouldn't be much of a sales pitch!

I'm thinking of either getting rid of the shower and having a large shower enclosure, or a small corner bath and a shower cubicle.
