Can I get these scratches out or am I doomed?

Can I DIY it or do I need to hire a professional? Money is tight so I'd rather not have to hire someone.

TIA!

Is it scratched all over or just in those places?

Twinkletowedelephant · 19/08/2017 11:28

Have you tried a walnut or are they very deep?

Walnuts got rid of our light scratches

Try some pledge wood oil first

You can get pens or lotions to colour in
The scratches. From places like wilko. Give it a go and you'll soon not notice them!

Pledge repair oil is excellent. It's a dark coloured liquid. Amazing stuff. It comes in dark or light. Got my last one in tesco but you can get it on eBay etc. Lasts forever.

Thanks everyone!! Will give those ideas a go

Try walnut first.
Get walnuts from baking section.
Cut into large pieces and rub the cut side along the scratch.
Something to do with the oil

Walnuts can't make the wood the wrong colour like some of the scratch products mentioned

first question: what is the finish? Oil and wax, varnish, or factory lacquer? Usually scratches just take the finish off. If they have taken a colour coating off as well, you have to correct the colour before you repair the finish. (tinted varnishes and stains are more difficult to repair than clear finishes).

you can get a good idea of how it will look by wiping it with a damp sponge. It will temporarily darken the scratch and make it look a bit more glossy, to show you what a colourless finish will do. If the wood fibres are sticking up like tiny splinters you can smooth them first with a very fine sandpaper.
